ive been thinking about trying out production or limited uspsa/ipsc

i currently own a sig p226r chambered in 40cal with optional 357sig conversion.

is this a good pistol to run or should i consider a glock 34 or 35?

i was considering 3 gun but figured that would be a tough place to start.

i already purchased an LMT MRP cqb upper thats currently looking like a bad place to start, so i can always trade or sell it to start a production rig if necessary.

thanks guys

Bring what you have and shoot it. Try out everyone else's guns at the match and see what you like best. Make sure you talk to anyone and everyone and ask questions.

Use what you have and learn the basics of the game before going out and buying more stuff.

If you are going to your first match, take all the mags you own and fill them up to capacity and shoot in Limited. However, with a .40 cal Sig, you will probably want to move to shooting Production (if you reload and can load for minor power factor) or Limited 10 if you are shooting factory.

Also, ask yourself whether you want to focus on pistols or do the Multigun thing. Make an informed decision on what game/division interests you the most after attending a few matches.

this is exactly what i was going to say... great advice..

You should find out if you like shooting matches before you spend hundreds or thousands of dollars investing in yourself for your chosen pursuit. No matter what, you're going to need a minimum of four magazines, and you'll need mag pouches and a good plastic holster. 3-Gun is more fun than USPSA, but requires much more effort to do it right. And money, much more money.

Production is the least costly division to shoot, and your Sig would fit it. A Glock 34/35 would be a better choice, but if you love that gun, use it. It's the shooter that does the winning.

I started out using a beretta 92fs and have since moved to a glock just because of the da/sa of the beretta. The first shot was always off.
When I get the funds and when I can find one, I'll be moving to an m&p pro because I shoot better with it than I do a glock. Definitely try out everyone else's guns to see what works best for you.
