Here it come: gun control

AK47's don't belong in the hands of criminals? Thanks for clearing that up. Now, how many did you and Eric Withholder sell to criminals south of the border?

Now here is a question for you folks. Is an AK47 not a select fire weapon? Kinda like an M16 with it's semi auto version being an AR15?

Funny that the President mentions the AK-47 when the weapon used in Colorado was not an AK-47. So is he saying that NATO looking semi-autos are ok, but that Warsaw pact looking weapons are not?

And why do they tip toe around their issue. They want all guns gone . . . period. Why do they try to pick one and say its evil when it is no different than the hundreds of other weapons on the streets already. Eventually we will hear how evil the single shot bolt action pistol is, and it will also get banned by an ignorant public who somehow feels safer with the chances of them being stabbed or beaten higher, but at least their chances of being shot are down.

Look at the U.K.; they got rid of guns and are now the violent crime capital of Europe. Sure, you likely not going to get shot, but the murder rate is still near the same. Personally, I'd rather you shoot me than beat me to death with a bat.

(Painfully) listening to Obummer's speech, I could not identify one thing he proposed that is not already the process for law abiding citizens who purchase firearms lawfully. Come up with a solution to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and mental defectives, and I'm all for it. Politicians won't let a good crisis go to waste. Even Bill O'Reilly blew it badly on Tuesday night. He didn't have a clue what gun purchasing laws are and are not and doesn't know an AK from an ICBM.

Why don't ya know that all criminal types use those AK-47s. He (Obumma) as others always refer to Assault Rifles and AK-47s with the same evil disdain. Every commoner knows how deadly and evil AK-47s are because they see all the bad guys on TV using them. The talking heads have no clue what they are talking about and neither do many of the populace.

I worry about this a little. I'm not against moderate gun control, which I believe we have in existing laws. I could see a high-cap ban coming out of this, but I don't agree with it. OTOH, make high-caps DD's and the stamp is what, $5?

I don't know how the gov't will ever control the secondary (ie, f-t-f) market. Imposing liability on the seller is a coutroom loser, there is no way for the seller to do a 4473 or similar process. Requiring all transfers to be through a FFL will be ignored - no one is going to pay an extra $50 for their $75 .22LR. I know, I know, $15 from lots of places, but most folks only see the storefronts and most storefronts are $$$. No farmer in the middle of Kansas is going to pay attention to that.

OTOH, I hate to jump on the "guns for everyone!!1!!" NRA bandwagon, but I have to think that if CC was legal in Aurora there might have been much less of a news story.

Not how he says AK-47's belong in the hands of the military, not crimnals. So that leaves nothing in between? If you are not military, you are criminal! Anybody think, how about law abidin citizens? I think what he is saying: if you outlaw guns, only the military and criminals will have them.

Interesting too, what military is he thinking about? Certainly not the US military if AK's are the weapon of choice. Who is he inviting over?

Statistically the AK is the weapon of choice for most armed groups in the world, so technically that is correct. Whether Obama knows the difference between an assault rifle, assault weapon, select-fire and semiautomatic, and AK and everything else is not likely.

Sadly, the same can probably be said about the folks who will come up with whatever new gun laws get pushed. Why can't competent people make laws regarding the things they know...

... but then again, I'm talking about politicians, so competency in anything is not really in the cards.
