More aftermarket accessories are available for Glock and Smith and Wesson M&P line of pistols.
Get a .40 for USPSA

It depends on what you want type of pistol competitions you're planning to shoot imo
There are tons of options and their all fun for different reasons.
If I had it do over and was only going to own one gun for USPSA Limited...I'd buy a .40 and the competition version..like a M &P Core or Glock35 for limited. I don't shoot production so I can't speak for that myself.

I think Tony Wall has a new Core for sale on here.

9mm for 3-gun.

The XDM line is attractive for the beginner because of the extra mags and mag pouches and nicer factory sights. However The stuff that comes with the is beginner level at best. You'll want to upgrade after about 3-6 months and it will cause you to lose $200 or so.

I'm shooting .40 for USPSA and 3 gun. If I had it to do over I would get 9mm. I'm shooting Limited Minor anyway, and figure USPSA is just pistol training for 3 gun.

I have been contemplating this same thing but more division related I guess. I have a g34 on the way here but trying to decide production or limited. With production I know I have to load down to 10 rounds so I'll have to purchase an additional 2 mags and 4-5 mag pouches. With limited I could use the three mags I have buy 3 Dawson base pads and load what like 22 rounds. So should be able to run fine with that. I would only have to purchase 2-3 mag pouches with limited as well. I could probably even do without the base pads in limited but might be some good insurance to have to make sure I don't run out. I do not reload nor will I probably ever. I shoot either 115gr or 124gr freedommuntions depending what I have. At this point I'm not playing to win just learn and have fun so not extremely worried about the scoring advantages I might have in one division over the other. So with all this jargon what else should I think about when deciding? What usually is the best route for someone in my situation? Thanks!

No need to get everything at once for Limited with a G34. Holster, 2 single or 1 double mag pouch, and no base pads, and make ready magazine in your pocket. Limited is great fun, and you get to load to capacity.

You can also find a nice Glock or XDm 9mm setup on Dawson Precision for not a bad price! Usually will have the magwell, extended bases pads and fiber optic FS.

With a G34 you're stuck shooting minor anyways so I wouldn't bother trying to turn it into a Limited gun.

If I were you I'd just shoot it in Limited for a while if that's what you want to do, then either buy the extra mags and stuff for Prod or sell it and get a G35 or some other 40 for a dedicated Lim gun. You won't have any trouble flipping a Glock 34.
