Greetings fellow 2nd amendment patriots,

I'm an avid amateur shooter, go both to long range outdoor and indoor ranges at least once a month (with the exceptions of the bad mid-west winter months). I'm sick n tired of shooting several rounds and walking the $%^& 100 to 200 yards to get a close up of my shots after each grouping. It's hard without the wingman and a set of 'nocs, but I was thinking it would be slick to have a wifi camera hookd up to some mechanism that can take a picture of the bullet entry points (on a paper target) and have a smart phone app that would score my results for me. Any thoughts on that?

I've been looking for products like it but see nothing.

Wow! Lose the font. It's almost impossible to read.

Someone already maked a wifi camera app setup. Google it.

You beat me to it.

A pro is that you can see those tiny 5.56mm holes out as far as you want to set the camera.

A con is once you are finished at 100 yards, you need to pack up and move everything out to 200 yards, then 300, etc.

Another pro is its cheaper than a spotting scope that can actually be used to see those tiny holes beyond 200 yards.

Another con is once its set up, some yahoo thinks it another target. (At least that's what the guy said after he shot my chronograph.)

Comic Sans. Gross.

Automatically scoring targets is a computer vision problem that I've been thinking about for a while. It's harder than you'd think.

I'm sure that's a problem lots of people would like to solve. Shows like 3 gun nation would be more interesting and draw a larger audience if there were some way to electronically overlay the hits on the target as the competitors shoot.

I use a battery powered baby monitor that I had in the garage. Works fine outdoors at 100 yards.
My kids are in their 30's and I didn't know these even existed.

Now for someone to do a few range tests to see which ones work the best, especially with high resolution out to 200 yards.

Set up behind the line and shoot the 70 year old guys who spend all their time at the range picking up other people's brass almost as soon as it hits the ground. Shots shouldn't be too hard to judge that way and I get to keep my .45 brass.

Well said. This is why I'm trying to adopt a monkey. For a small licensing fee I can have a dedicated brass recovery asset. Apparently they can also be trained to run a dillon press and tape targets.

Am I the only one who uses a spotting scope and a data book?

I also walk out and hang my targets at 300 yards when I'm the only one at the bench rest range. I enjoy being outside.

Nope. a lot of the serious shooters at 100-300 yd ranges use spotting scopes. Some use scopes as expensive as their rifles.

"And I'm super creepy Micah Rowe and I use a spotting scope..."

You can always do a little digiscoping using a portable camera/phone and your spotting scope. Video the shooting string and replay it so you can score it.
