I went to my first match this past weekend and was anxious and nervous at the same time. Ran the irst stage and hit 3 steel targets out of 30 in 22 sec (need practice) On the second stage which was an L-shaped gun and run got DQ'd for crossing the 180 line. Man I felt about 2 inches tall. I have been reqding and lurking on several sites and thought I knew the rule but was wrong. I have since gotten qualification on the rule - I knew not to cross the 180 line but thought the 180 moved with the backdrop you were shooting into. Dumbass and dangerous mistake but how many new shooters think the same way. I am hoping to go back and hoping that I will be accepted as I would like to pursue this sport. RO's when you have a new shooter in the squad please take a second and make sure they know how the 180 rule applies. I am not new to shooting as I have been doing it for a long time but always from a fixed bench. Thanks for the inspiration to try this and enjoy reading the exploits of the members

Don't sweat it even a little bit man. Most matches have a new shooters meeting before they start where they explain the safety rules, but it sounds like that didn't happen. A DQ can happen to anyone, and will eventually happen to pretty much everyone who shoots a lot. The RO has to DQ you because we take safety extremely seriously, but he definitely didn't want to do it, and nobody will think any less of you because of that.

Now you understand the rule - problem solved. Take the experience, learn from it, but don't let it bother you. Come out and shoot again sometime. The more you do it, the more fun it gets.

It sucks, I know (look under my avatar).

Don't worry about it, everyone else has already forgotten about it. If you are worried (and thinking) about it at the next match your mind won't be in the right place.

Jesse Tischauser had to DQ his own father-in-law at his very first match.

I've had to DQ more than a few shooters and never enjoy it. So long as you learn from your mistakes, you're always welcome back.

Live and learn, sir!

Youre a sport to post this.

I only DQ from throwing my gun around, so dont sweat it.

Not a big deal. Like Robbie says it happens or will happen to everyone. I got mi e out of the way last year in Arkansas for grounding a loaded shotgun that I thought was unloaded. I learned it's worth looking in the chamber for empty or simply popping the safety on first. Live and learn.

I did the same thing that Jesse did in my very first match. Felt bad for a second. That mistake probably taught me more than anything else that day.

You were lucky! Our match is only a stage DQ. USPSA is a match DQ. I got to do a lot of RO and scoring the rest of the day.

I've had to dq several an its never fun. They all have came back and are into the sport. I dq'd myself at Doubletap last year by not making sure the gun was clear on the unload and show clear command. Got to freeze, watch, and tape the rest of the match. As they say, there are 2 types of shooters, those who have dq'd, and those that are going to. Come on back and play.
