Exotic Wood Grips

I'm curious if anyone other than me appreciates nice wooden grips. If you do, where do get them? I've had excellent craftsmanship from Wood Caliber. I have a set made from Gaboon Ebony with double diamonds and skip checkered. I also have a set with all the same features that are made from Desert Ironwood. They are examples of great craftsmanship. I am thinking there are grip makers I'm unaware of.

I love them, just don't shoot well with them unless checkered, which usually kinda kills the look of exotics to me. I have found stag to look good and have a good shooting texture.

I agree..while I love the look & feel of nice wood grips..I've learned that I don't shoot my best with them.
Bought several nice sets of wood grips, think the last was some S&W " Presentation" grips, for my model 29..look beautiful, feel great in your hand, but when shooting 44 mag loads..too hard for me to keep a firm grip on 'em. Have had smooth grips on several 1911's..again, look great, but prevent me from
keeping consistent firm grip, regardless of caliber.My latest grips of choice for my 1911's has been those aggressive -texture G-10 grips..

High Figure Grips; SK Custom Grips; and Esmeralda all come to mind. I love the appearance of the exotics, but VZ Alien texture is hard to beat, for me.

I tend to make my own and yes, I love nice wooden grips.
Of course 1911grips are about as easy as it gets, revolver grips are much harder but I've made a few sets of those and am still working on the set of Koa L frame grips. I'll get them done some day. I've learned to not rush them and never work on them unless you really want to. So they'll probably set in their current state until one day, BOOM! let's finish these, it's like holsters, same thing. Yep, I love leatherwork too.

Dont tell anyone but I have sold a few sets. I'm sure somebody here could quote some federal law that makes me a manufacturer or dealer and how much trouble I could be in.

The Iron wood for my 1978 Colt MKIV series 70 1911 & the Black as night for my 1981 Commander to blend in well of course.
A great fit right off & they tend to stay in place even with the great old 45 ACP going bang.

Bob is a great guy to work with & it's family run & run by great Americans.

I have an incredible set of Lion's Blood Amboyna burl from Bob (@Gripwright) at Cherokee Hills as well as some very nice grips from Wood Caliber. I've been tempted by more than one set from High Figure Grips as well.
