The problem is that police are not exempt from the 1934 National Firearms Act. So, unless the bait was planted by the ATF then the police officer and/or agency they work for are committing a felony violation of federal law.
 
We should get a mandatory firearm class in high school. We have sex ed and drivers ed... why not? Or better yet, a crash course in crime and punishment.
 
Ignorance is no excuse, some people just add and remove things because they fit. They have no clue on the confusing NFA rules.
 
Some retailers are nice enough to include a little education with some of their more risque products. For instance, Midway USA includes in bold the following text with the product description for a 12.5" upper assembly.

This was up for a few days and I wanted to comment on it but after seeing it again (again) I figured I might as well eviscerate this guy, too.

For the record, that is a Knoxx Recoil-Reducing buttstock. I had one on a Mossberg 590 and it worked great.

Problem is that the dumbass selling this gun/stock combo is selling it as a "bumpfire" stock.

First off, the gun is a single-shot, pump-action firearm, thus negating the possible effect of the addition of a "bumpfire" stock. Secondly, as I just pointed out, that isn't even what the damned thing is.
 
I got a good laugh out of that one too. Even if he wasn't way overpriced (par for the course these days on armslist) I wouldn't contact him just because he clearly has no idea what he is talking about.

I will admit that the first time I saw it I wanted to email him and say I wanted to buy it but only after he test fires it in front of me to demonstrate that the Bumpfire works correctly. Then when he can't bumpfire it I pull out a stack of $50's and say "Your loss" and leave.

That being said, lol $700? I mean, I see overpriced, sure, but dude.

I just picked up a Stevens semi shotgun from East Coast's clearance for under a bill. Little TLC and she's right as rain - guess I should put it on Armslist for $500. :roll:

Thats what we need to get rid of is the confusing nfa laws. Most people just buy guns for fun and dont look that far into it. Like buying paintball guns, motorcycles, or cars. They know they got a great deal on an upper they dont care its 14.5 inches they think o its just an inch and a half shorter than my buddies rifle no big deal. Or hey that vertical grip would help me hold that pistol. Look at rhe lady who crossed into new iersey and gave the cop her concealed weapons permit. Everyone would think hey this should be good in all 50 states like my license. Hell my grandfather never checked laws when he moved from pa to nj. We were in pa at his vacation property and he bought me and all my cousins bb guns. I remember him having a strange look on his face when the cops told him thats a firearm in nj and those were the end of our days shooting cans off logs
 
It is frustrating to see these people continue to list $1000 + Palmetto State Armory AR-15s (USED!) when you can buy a brand new Bushmaster AR-15 for $600 or a brand new Colt for $800.

I actually find those "ads" amusing.

I also think they're informative. Most gun owners have no idea you can buy gun stuff, or even ammo, online or from mail order. Most gun owners think their local gun store(s) is/are the only source for guns, ammo, magazines, et al. and have no idea what cost/value anything actually is.

The only way to assuage ignorance and stop someone from doing something stupid is to inform them.

If you don't know that you can buy something all day long at $500, and you see it for sale at $700, you might think that price is reasonable until some random jackass mocks the sale ad you spy with a "LOL THIS GUY IS SELLING A USED $500 GUN FOR $700!!!!" so you Google, or email that guy, or whatever, and, well what do you know, he was right. That internet troll actually saved me $200.
