I had similar problems w/ my brand new Les Baer Concept VI last month. The gun totally locked up after 20 rounds, couldn't budge the slide. I contacted Les Baer and sent the gun back. It was returned in less than 2 weeks, including shipping. They needed to rework the slide and frame, obviously a little too tight. Things happen, and things go wrong. But I was extremely pleased w/ how Customer Service resolved the problem and got the gun back to me. When something goes wrong, it is CS's opportunity to show how a great company solves problems, I was very impressed.

I had similar problems w/ a Dan Wesson Bruin 2 years ago. A friend and I bought 2 Bruins at the same time in order to negotiate a good price from my local shop. My gun kept locking up on the first day, but my friend's Bruin ran fine. We exchanged mags and ammo to try to identify the problem, but no go on my gun. I had to send it back to DW twice and they kept the gun for 3 months saying there was no problem, it was me. The second time they said it was the magazine, which it wasn't since I swapped mags w/ my buddy when the problem first occurred). They kept the gun for 3 months, saying nothing was wrong.

Compare that w/ my experience at Les Baer. I'll never buy another DW gun, under any circumstance. The Bruin shoots fine now, but why did I have to fight w/ them for 3 months? As I said earlier, things happen and things go wrong, but I judge the company on how they resolve problems. I give Les Baer an A for CS, and an F goes to Dan Wesson.

Unfortunately these problems are all to often. I had to return my RO Champion for FTF. They said they had to throat and ramp it again and polish things up. How about all those details before you ship them out? No fun shipping firearms back and forth. Three days to get! Wasted crummy range day! Time and cost to ship it! Wait for its return! Go back to pick it up! Hope like all heck they actually fixed the problem. Luckily they did and the baby has been burping fine ever since! No firearm should require a breaking in period. Glock is a prime example of that.

I just bought a DW Pointman 7 45 1911. Stainless. Brand new. Won't chamber a round with stock mags, colt mags or Wilson Combat mags.

If it makes you feel any better, I have a friend who bought a Dan Wesson. He paid a little over $1,000 for it. Can't remember the exact model, but he had nothing but issues with that thing. Constant FTFs, locking up on last round. It was a mess. He said he was gonna send it to them for repairs. I haven't seen him in a while so I don't know the current status of it.

This is my first 1911. Not my first firearm. Paid $1600 new for this thing. Haven't shot it yet but it won't chamber anything anyways so might as well save myself the trip. Emailed DW earlier. We'll see what they say. Good opportunity to make a good customer out of me if they play it right

Definitely jump on them because that's a very expensive gun and there is no excuse for that. I know 1911s aren't perfect, but damn. I'm sure they will make it right for you.

I bought a new Pointman Carry yesterday.

I got it home and cleaned it up. Then realized that all of the lubes that I have on hand are not recommended for the break in.

Today's trip to the LGS will get the real deal snake oil in their list of recommendations.

This will be my first DW.
Wish me luck.

As long as she's clean & wet (insert your chosen pun here), She'll be fine.

I've owned 5 and still have 3. They are my favorite.

DW's are widely considered the best of the non customs.

Sane **** happens 10-12 times a year, and that's the ones we actually hear about. Same damn galling problem they have for the last ten+
years.

You couldn't give me a DW

They still haven't emailed me back. Last night, I tried to rack the slide with a stock magazine and a Federal 230gr. The round goes straight into the feed ramp every time. It's nowhere near the angle it needs to be to make it into the chamber. This last round got shoved about an eighth of an inch into the casing.... Scary

Darn! Guess that I'll unpack that VALOR that I was gunna give you. ;)

You mis-quoted me. I did not say that they are the best, did I?
Yes, I did read the title.
Saw the vid.
Owned 5 at various times. Have you?
I've even used their CS. Have you?

They make alot of guns. Their quality is good, but not everything is perfect.

1 1/2 ys ago I bought a SA TRP 6" 10mm.
The price was darn close to DW.
That was the only part that was close.
Sold it & bought my CMMG BANSHEE. :D:D:D:D:D

I'll continue to spend my $$$ on them when possible. Even been thinking about selling my VALKYRIE and replacing it with a SPECIALIST 9mm.

"DW's are widely considered the best of the non customs."

Did I misunderstand something here?

Yes, I've had three. Had a valor when they 1st started offering them. Had one of the 1st Specialists they sold. Had an early ECO.

Never saw anything special about them. Their finishing and blending sucked. Just a few ladder rings above Fusion.

They are an ok pistol, unless you get a galled POS like the op. Then it's a major pain in the arse that you'll never trust.

Seriously, I wouldn't take a free DW

Apparently nuances escape you.

For the record, who do you think should hold that distinction? What company mass produces better quality 1911's in the same volume for the same price?
