Most of you know I am one of a few that still shoots .45. In the past I never had a problem recovering my empties after I shot a stage.

Well last week at OKCGC was too much for me. Now that brass is hard to come by, there were a couple of people following not only me (but others as well) picking up all brass when it was still hot. No kidding, they were like ducks after June bugs and the .45 was the juiciest meal of all! I
I only had about 25 pieces of brass in my pocket when I left the match.

A plea to all; can we be respectful and at least allow each shooter to retrieve their own brass?

Gee, I feel a whole lot better having got that off my mind.

Tally ho!

The Duck.

PS Those great big holes in the paper of my targets are the work of Mitch Harrington's .45 LSWC 200 gr. cast slugs. They always feed in my S&W 1911.

On the last stage I shot, we broke it down, when everyone left that bay, I then I stayed and picked up brass. I hope that is the appropriate method.

I have to pick up my brass. But, what I do, if I see someone else picking up their brass, I help them. Hopefully, they will help me in return. I am respectful and never let my brass picking affect the flow of the stage. But, after the first stage, if the other shooters are letting theirs lay, I pick up all I can in my caliber. Also, since there is usually 4 of us, one will pick brass after another of us shoots, while the other two paste targets. Really just trying to recover our own, but if no one else is picking up, those honey holes are pretty nice!

Know what you mean, the last several times at OKCGC I have had "brass ninja's" on my squad that picked everything and of course did so at the expense of tapping targets, finally had to say something but I think it went in one ear and out the other. Not that 40 S&W is hard to find but would like to get some of my brass back these days....... I think in days past (or so I was told) there was someone that picked up the shooters brass for them when they were done shooting, but these days it kind of a free for all. I usally try to pick up a few pieces of brass when waiting for another shooter or on my way to tape a target but I only try to pick up some of what I used on that stage seldom do I go home with more than 1/2 that I used that day.

Like I said, I try mostly to get my own and help anyone else get theirs. But I would have serious issues with brass ninjas coming along behind me. Glad you called them on it.

Seriously? Were these other shooters, or just random yahoos?

I'd have no problem at all with handing out some unsportsmanlike conduct DQs for repeat offenders...

This is what bothers me. I've had to call them on it a few times myself. That & reviewing the video from the last stage.

I'd like to shoot the match & get done.
This just causes everything to to slow down & we end up taking 2hrs longer than it should have.

Steve, you did it right.

Maybe it's time to designate a squad brass hound or two to police up everyone's brass as they shoot the stage.

On a similar note I have a bunch of .45 brass I picked up at the OKC match I'd sell you cheap. J/K lol!

There have been non shooters at a few matches recently. Some people have realized that they can show up when matches are being held and pick up brass.

That is ridiculous if your there to watch that's one thing but just to collect everyone's brass is bs! It's probably the same losers that stand in line at Walmart to flip ammo. This royally pisses me off just when I'm at the range so I couldn't imagine while I was competing. The way I see it when I'm FINISHED shooting if my brass is still there its free game but don't even ask me while I'm shooting if I reload or you can have my brass!

You know, typically if you say something like "hey could you not pick up my brass" they'll leave it alone.
Or...just walk over to the guy who bogarted all your brass and say -"thanks, bro! what a guy, picking up all my empties!" while your hand is out.

I still reserve the right to shoot em if they don't get it (or are not taping targets)

I'm pretty sure that "he was vulturing my 45 brass" is grounds for justifiable homicide in Oklahoma.

REALLY DQ somebody for picking up brass. just talk to them

I've been shooting steel so I haven't worried about picking up brass. Though now that I can't seem to get Tula and will be shooting Federals and WWB I guess I will pick up some. But I will wait till the stage is complete if there is time or the match is over.

I personally am too lazy and decrepit to pick up my 45 brass. Magazines are a big enough challenge.
Another guy on the squad thoughtfully started picking up my brass for me at the last match. After a few stages, I noticed he was shooting 45 ACP also and told him to keep it as I had plenty.
And from what I saw, it really was my brass.
Super nice guy.
When I go to a match, I just plan on coming home with whatever the round count is less brass.

Back in the 80's, we called out the shooting line up like this:

"Bill is the shooter, Pete on deck. Joe, Mary, Tom amd Mike tape, Arnold and Steve set steel, ROBERT, BRASS."

Bill went to the line to shoot, Pete prepared to shoot. Joe, Mary, Tom and Mike knew the had to tape and Rob picked up the shooters brass and returned it to him following the stage.

Not only did it let everyone know the shooting order, everyone was assigned a job at a given time. If Mike wasn't taping, or Arnold wasnt setting steel, it was obvious and easy to get on their butt about it THEN, not lament about it later.

In this case, if Robert and two nameless brass grabbers are collecting brass, that's an easy fix, too.

This trued and true method would solve the brass grabbers and other issues.
