hi
I'm a French "refugee" (legal resident!) living in Austin soon moving to Blanco, TX
I got my green card in 2023, passed my drivers licence in the fall of 2023 and the first thing I did was buy a gun. My first one was a Colt Python, then I got a Beretta 92, and after a couple of months I got interested in 1911s. My first one was a Garrison which I liked OK, but nothing mad. At first. Then I went the plastic gun route, and I was not super enthusiastic and much preferred revolvers. Then I found my first love, a SIG nightmare carry, which I found really nice and enjoyable. I took my CCL firing test with it and used it at the Gunsite academy classes I took last year. There I saw a Gunsite limited edition 1911 (I think it was made by Colt), I didnt buy it but it inspired me to check out 1911s more often.
I looked at Tisas' $300 model and thought, wow, this is really great value, bought two other Tisas and the MAC MEUSOC which is a cool gun. They shoot well
As I got more and more interested in the history, the legacy of the 1911, I first started to tinker with my Garrison and striped it and reblued it, which was a cool experience during which I got into the nitty gritty of the gun. I decided to build myself my own gun. Was able to assemble it, but needed help from a gunsmith to "finalize" it. It shoots OK, nothing to brag about except that I know better what to do now and will definitely use that first experience when I get to build another one.
I was lucky and made some money and bought a Les Baer Custom Carry and it was a revelation. I love this gun so much that I bought another one from Crazy John, a Stainless steel which is a beauty and shoots perfectly too. I just decided to order a heavyweight monolith from Les and a Megalith from Rob at Schauland
All my 1911s (except one) are 45ACP and most of them are 5" barrels. My only "lemon" is the Colt Lightweight Commander, which I had to take to the gunsmith twice because of repeated failures to feed or to eject, slide not getting back in position, etc... a nightmare. Funnily enough, my only non 45ACP is also a Colt (9mm) and this one is flawless. The quality control of my Colt pistols is horrible compared to my Colt revolvers (Python, Anaconda, King Cobra Carry). Go figure.
My future neighbor in Blanco is a gun guy and has told me he'd take me places in the Blanco area.
Apart from guns, I love fountain pens and folding knives
I produce Jamaican music for a living
My wife is a US citizen (we met in 1979 when we were 15). So are my 2 adult kids. One of them lives in Austin, the other in NYC
I love Texas and the freedom here is unbelievable compared to Europe, not just on guns
Life is great!
