I am looking for an AR-15 in one of two different configurations.

1. 16" mid length gas system, free float hand guard (preferably 12"+), no front sight post, good quality/name brand complete rifle

or I would settle for...

2. 16" carbine/mid length gas system, flat top upper, good quality complete rifle in the $700 range

I'm willing to pay a little more for the rifle that I really want, but I honestly am going to end up with at least two different rifles in the future. So, I'm open to whichever deal I come across first.

Anybody?? I'm interested in pretty much any 16" AR-15 right now that is of decent quality.

could be wrong but i dont think carbine and midlength handguards go together

carbine and mid are two different length gas tubes, but a free float tube can be on both, i guess.

I think he meant either carbine or mid lenght. If you get a low profile gas block, you can put a free float over it. Too bad Dick's Sporting Goods has quit selling "modern sporting rifles" (known by the libs as "assault weapons" or "machine guns"); they had a Dick's exclusive Troy rifle meeting the preferred description for a great price.

Try some pawn shops. Warning: prices may be jacked up due to the threat of another ban.

I just got screwed by Dick's because of that rifle. http://www.palmettoshootersforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=5728

As to carbine or mid length, you are exactly right. I would prefer a mid length gas system rifle, but I will take a carbine length as well.

Nevermind, I just bought one from Upstate Armory Group. I will be picking it up tomorrow.

So what did you get?
Is their shop open? I can never get a solid response from those guys. What's the trick?

It must be? I called Jason, he was listed on the "contact us" page for long gun sales.

It's a CMMG 16" carbine length. They are installing a 15" FF rail and magpul back up sites. I might pick up a cheaper red dot and a decent scope for it so I can use it for hunting.

Thanks for the business BEERMAN.

You're welcome.

After I get to play with the rifle and Christmas is out of the way I will do a write-up of my experience.
