Anyone Actually Clean Their Guns with WD-40?

WD-40 is a penetrating lube. It will deaden your pimers and powder in your pistols. It turns to a gum or shellac-like film. It is not a firearms lubricant or cleaner.
Believe what you want.
My friend Joe Gamez used it liberally on his Model 19 against my advice. He was found dead in the M-1 canal along the border between Quemado and Del Rio, TX, when they recovered his M-19, only 2 rounds had fired. All the cartridges had multiple strikes. His killers were never found. His partner was likely involved, but never charged. A sad chapter in the USBP story.

I didn't go any further in my description.. of my wd 40 cleaning process, leaving off @ .." Oil & lube, then reassembly."
I've used a wide variety of oils, from 3 in 1 / sewing machine oil, to full synthetic automotive oil ( Mobil-1) in addition to gun specific oil products, both sprays & liquids. Military surplus gun oils, Outers gun oil, Rem-Oil, Tri-flow, other stuff I can't remember & newer stuff like Mirachem's Gun cleaner Degreaser, and Gunzilla. My gunsmith gave me several small sample tubes ( containing maybe 5-10cc ) of FP-10. I tried it & was impressed. Bought a small bottle & decided it was better than other oils. Bought a gallon. Though I use it sparingly, mostly on rotating parts..i.e. barrel links, hammer pivots, etc..

For many years I've been using SuperLube,, a clear grease. A 1# tub lasted for longer than I can remember, ( > 20 yrs) just recently opened a spare. ( I did notice it was a 14 oz tub, not 16 oz. ) Superlube is applied to sliding surfaces, frame rails, barrel lugs, even tight fitted barrel bushings. Like Brylcream, " a little dab'll do ya." I can say, I've never had a lube related stoppage or failure on any of my guns.

Not trying to start a war here—but I've heard guys swear by WD-40 for cleaning or protecting their guns, and others say it's the worst thing you can use.

I've got a buddy here in FL who uses it religiously on his 1911 and AR, and his stuff runs great. I've mostly stuck with CLP or Ballistol but gotta admit… that WD can feels tempting when I'm low on supplies.

So what's the real scoop—anyone here actually use WD-40 on their guns? Just curious what folks think. Horror stories? Success stories? I will not use it on my higher end stuff.
Back in the early 60's we used Hoppes #9 to clean the barrels and 3-in-1 Machine Oil to lubricate our guns. When WD-40 hit the market we switched to it. We never had any problems from using it. We just had to wipe our guns down occasionally during out of hunting season storage time due to it evaporating. Other than that it was fine. Now I use Rem-Oil Wipes on the outside and Weapon Shield to lubricate the inside of my guns. To clean the barrels I use Wipe-Out Patch-Out, or if the barrel is extremely fouled Wipe-Out Tactical Advantage made by Sharp Shoot R Precision Products.
