Hello everyone,
I just wanted to touch base with you all regarding a couple of new rule interpretations straight from NROI. Â I'm sending this out to as many of you as I can, since the USPSA server is down until Monday. Â
1. Â Yes, painting any pattern on the inside of your mag well (or lack thereof) in Production is NOT legal. Â Even if it's not visible, you can't do it. Â This came straight from John Amidon, but please voice your concerns to me. Â If I go to him with enough "concerns" about this new decision, maybe it will change. Â We'll see. Â If it's any consolation from an instructor's point of view, it really does nothing to help you...in fact, it typically slows you down a bit to take time to look at it. Â That still doesn't mean I agree with this ruling, but nonetheless. Â The rules are the rules.
2.  There has been some concern about 5.2.4 regarding what a shooter in Single Stack or Production can do with their mags after they're retrieved from a barrel or table.  According to NROI's new interpretation of this rule, you can now place the mags in your pouches, in a pocket (as long as it stays behind the hip), or IN YOUR HAND.  Here's the new written interpretation from John Amidon that has been updated and approved by the board:
Rule 5.2.4 is interpreted to mean that when the equipment has to start with the magazines or speed loaders in retention devices attached to the belt, for those divisions that have position restrictions of holster and other equipment, they must be in compliance with Appendix D item 12, unless stipulated in the WSB that places them on a table or similar start and not in the retention devices for the start position. Further, spare ammunition, magazines and/or speed loading devices carried in the hand after the start signal are not subject to the equipment position restrictions of Appendix D, Item 12.
