3-Gun at OKCGC

Stage 2...lots of guys shot at the wrong target. Stage winner had 11 hits, and shot the far left target. I generally like standards-type stages but the first/last shooters of the five had an advantage. The scoring being different confused me at the time, too.

Only way to make the match better would be a numbered no shoot placed beneath the target so you didn't have to hunt for it. I had to find the left target then go one over everytime I changed positions.

That looked like a fun match. Hope I can make it to the one in November. I'll be at my parents' for turkey day so that'll work out awesome.

I thought the stages were great, you guys did everything to show me just how weak of a shooter I am. :)

I guess I'm the only one that wished we could have finished up a little earlier. I know it's 3-gun and that does take a little longer than a pistiol match, but 6 stages in 6+ hours with roughly 12 minutes of shooting (for me anyway) that just seems a little long. That's also the reason I don't shoot any pistol matches.

I wish I understood why we had 28 shooters and only 3 squads, why not 4 squads of 7? I would think it might go a little faster, I really don't know. Please don't take that as criticism, I've been curious as to why we don't break into smaller squads for a while, but didn't want to ask in fear of being perceived as one who always complains.

Thanks again for taking the time in putting these matches together.

The problem with smaller squads is you have an ro, scorekeeper, person who just shot, the next shooter. So there is only 1 or 2 people to reset and tape.

Did I lend any shotshell caddies to anyone at the match Saturday? I think I am a few short after the last two days of shooting.

Can everybody check their gear for a few black Man Mountain Caddies? Thanks!

I thought the match was outstanding. The only thing I could think to change is maybe a little earlier start time.

That would be a problem, and like I said, I know it's 3 guns so we (I) should expect it to take a bit longer than a pistol match.

You're welcome to it anytime. One of the reasons I have that extra Benelli is to let other shooters use it. You're welcome to it anytime.

How did it shoot the slugs? That's the barrel that was shooting 18-24" low at 100 yards. I had it bent back to straight.

Jesse, you are just one hell of a guy!

It seemed to shoot about 12" high at that distance. But I could have been guilty of not having my cheek mounted like it should have been.

Ya'll keep refering to Kurt and Curly,When I got there Kurt had already set 1 and 2 .I hooked up to the trailer and by the time I got down to the bays there were 4 or 5 ready to help and another 2 or 3 after that,so it was group effort and that is what we need to keep this going. As far as start time that can be discussed but there is a few that drive a ways to shoot.Squad sizes don't do well with less than 7 or 8
Thanks for the help both Friday and Saturday
Curly

This match sounds like it was really great and I am very happy to hear that the level of help and involvment was high. I really hated to miss this one but sometimes life gets in the way. I will be there for the next one. Thank you very much to everyeon that made this event happen!

I really like having 6 stages vs. 4, especially when there are enough people to run 3 squads. A couple speed-shoot and/or standards-type stages on one bay (like the HPSC setup) is a pretty easy way to get the round count up, mix it up, and not slow things down much. 175ish rounds is a lot more fun than 125.

I enjoyed the mix of a shotgun targets (flippers, static clays, steel), but wouldn't want slugs every month.

I liked the ratio of 3 gun stages (4 out of 6). It's the name of the game after all. I've shot matches without any 3 gun stages, and I felt a little cheated.

The written stage descriptions were great. It's as if Kurt has done this before?

I had a great time at the match. Thanks to everyone that helped make it happen.

I thought the stages were fun and tested my abilities. I liked the flying, flipping, and static clays!!

I like the early start times, but I understand that we have people driving in from all over.

Thanks again!!

One thing I have seen only once and would like to see again is the run through the woods with the shotgun behind the last bay to the long range. Any chance we will see that again?

We must do that again!!!

I also wanted to mention that I think we had some confusion on the International Multi Gun Scoring. So I will explain it in detail.

The Failure to Neutralize (FTN) is only used when the shooter hits only one C or D on paper. Unless otherwise stated in the stage description like the clays that flipped on that one stage Saturday.

The UnHit Target is used for an paper target that was shot at but did not have any holes in it. It is alos used for a miss on a frangible, knockdown or flash target.

The Failure to Engage (FTE) is a target you never shot at either because you timed out and didn't get there, you ran right past it or whatever.

Let me know if you guys have any questions on the scoring. If you see any way for me to improve things on scoring or the score sheets or whatever by all means let me know.

Why so many people who scored zero on stage 2? I see that they had hit their target, yet they still got zero.

We used hit factor scoring for that one just like USPSA. Points/Time=Hit Factor. The stage had a maximum of 40 points if you shot 8 Alpha. Each miss is -10 points. If you shot two or more misses your points are almost zero. Zero/Time=Zero

I shot it in 25 seconds but missed twice. My hit factor was .07. I got 10 stage points.

I thought this was a great match! Big thanks to the people that put it on. I think the only problem was the ant hill. Did you know those things can latch onto you through pants? But that's OK. Revenge will be mine. I have a present for those little bastards the next time i'm out there.
