I just purchased a 1911 that looks like some type of hybrid - the slide is definitely from a 1911 - the frame has a serial number that is misaligned, 1922123 - Colt's website puts that as a military 1911A1 manufactured in 1944 - the grips look like Wilson Combat and are NOT factory or period-correct I would guess

could someone way smarter than me help me ID this baby?

if the serial # has been altered in any manner, probably never be able to determine what it really is.. was it advertised as being oem /original ?
or sold as a "Franken-gun," a mix of 1911 parts ? Might be oem except for the grips ?
Since you've got it, you could strip the frame & see if it's in spec, by fitting other 1911 parts to it.. if they fit, fine..if not ?
From the pic, the metal on the slide does seem to match the frame.
