16" Mid Length Light Weight 3 Gun AR

I worry about the same thing actually . The barrel is a 16.5 " so it's not all that different then having a 17" with a rifle length and you can find those from white oak , krieger, bartelin so maybe this will be ok , not sure. If it isn't i'm sure as hell not going to shoot it

now does it, boy?
Mike have you messed around at all with 16" builds ? I found the voodoo barrel that i posted a little earlier with a 16.5" barrel and rifle length gas…..like the above posters i'm hesitant because of the lockup time being effected. Bullet leaving the barrel , gas going to the port etc.

This build will have a low mass operating system and an adjustable gas block. I just have this feeling that if tuned correctly this could be awesome . Might have to run heavier bullets for increased blowback pressure , i dunno .

a moderately light 16 with a mid-length system is a valid combo, reliable and soft, with the other stuff, like lmos, good comp, etc.
I would HIGHLY recommend staying inside the "normal" operating window of the AR's gas system; setups that are proven. You could get one cool little rifle wih your idea, or you could get a constant barrage of little gremlins popping up at the same time, and never being able to get tuned for 100% because of their multiple, overlapping interactions acting against reliability.
-if you catch my jist. I just woke up after a nap after a long weekend, so Im apologetically a little vocab. inhibited.

The jist has been gotten . I may or may not experiment with that voodoo barrel with the rifle length gas, but probably not. I may just go thin profile 16" mid length gas, adjustable block, lmos etc etc. It would be interesting if it worked though

you could put a can on it that would increase the pressure, it has on mine to the point its over gassed but runs very reliably which you need cos cans make them run dirty too, but then why have a 16 if your going to do that I guess

It's rather pricey, but the JP ultra light 18" barrel is insanely accurate and very light weight. I don't think your wife would have any issue running it.
I also have an 18" Satern stainless double fluted barrel and the JP is definitely lighter.
They both weigh 31 oz.

Well I shot the barrel i'm going to be using on my build tonight. Full mass bcg , titan comp, and the 16.5" rifle length gas barrel. Really fantastic shooting gun. Nice AP custom hand guard on it. I could hammer on a human sized plate indefinitely without going off target. If i can tune this build right , it's going to be AWESOME !! But at least the first part of the question has been solved. Will this barrel shoot ? Yep , i done seen it!

Shoot head shots or A zone to really see what the movement in the sights looks like. Anything will stay out on a full size torso target.

Also would be interesting to run a mock stage on a timer comparing the two. I plan on doing something like this to see if it's worth me moving away from my 18" upper to a 16". Groups wise the barrels shoot the same but the timer can tell you a lot of things you may not see on target.

Oh it's not there quite yet . The upper i shot was just the first step in the upper i'm making. Proof of concept that the 16.5" barrel with the rifle length gas can run reliably . It can ,and fast as well.

Next part of the plan , low mass carrier

last part Taccom ultra light recoil buffer

If it all works , I SHALL BE KING !!!! Not of the shooting circuit , just in general

What stock are you running? If it's carbine length I'd simply take the weights out of your carbine buffer. Same weight and no plastic buffer. That taccom buffer deal is just a Delrin plug. Not something I'd put in my rifles. Longevity is my concern.

True , i'll be running a carbine length buffer tube and i can very easily remove the buffer weight no problem. Gonna go with the Mission First Tactical minimalist stock. I have the ace ARUL E right now and it's just a tiny bit too short and not adjustable . meh , the socom you have is tight , how's the weight on that ?

Ahhhh word. Well minimalist it is. I hope it's as good as it looks. As long as the little club foot is sturdy it'll be gtg
