14 Dead In Colorado Theater Shooting

To me, calling an AR-15 an assault weapon or machine gun is a worse offense than calling a magazine a clip. I got furious at the local Fox newsperson for using "assault weapon," "machine gun," and "automatic" all in the same breath when talking about the AR. Ugh! And, when they posted a "picture" of the shotgun Holmes used, it was the completely wrong model! They showed a stock picture of a tactical shottie, when he used a marine version of the 870 without the AR-style buttstock. Some peoples kids....

An AR-15 is no longer classified as an assault rifle. Should have put [sic] after that quote.

Sorry for the oversight, but it just goes to show how deep seated the anti-gun strategy is and how well it has worked when the term is used in a very pro-gun article, then I would read over it and not pay it any attention. I think most peoples misconception stems from the fact that they think the AR in AR-15 stands for Assault Rifle instead of referring back to Armalite.

What qualifies a rifle as "high powered?"

It depends on which anti-gun terrorist you ask. I once heard one of them refer to an air gun as a high powered rifle capable of bla bla bla (I'm not really sure what nonsense he made up but it was funny). I actually laughed out loud. The funny thing is he was doing it in a committee room in the Virginia General Assembly while speaking against some air gun bill. He was in a room FULL of gun owners (all speaking in favor of several pro-gun bills), many of whom were openly carrying "high powered" pistols. They accuse gun owners of being crazy for carrying guns, claim all sorts of blood in the streets at every turn, then show up in a room full of people they call gun toting loonies to speak against a silly little bill that really just fixed some air gun nonsense in Virgnia. These people really do have mental issues.

Here is a video that looks like the city of Houston produced using Homeland Security grant. It stated that it was started prior to Colorado and released just after. Two very interesting things are:

It says to use improvised weapons only and never mentions your ability to use firearms.

When it shows the authorities arriving, they are clearly uniformed police and military. We are being quietly conditioned to accept military response to civilian situations.

This six minute video could have been reduced to 15 seconds: "This is what could happen to you at work! Get your CWP, arm yourself, and shoot back". End of video.

I actually found it hard to believe they would suggest fighting back at all, but they made it clear to use "improvised weapons". What they failed to show was the futility of fighting an armed assailant with fire extinguishers and folding chairs. And yes Treedodger, I would have been LESS disturbed if the two guys in fatigues had been in black SWAT gear and marked "Police".
