OKCGC IPSC Match for February CANCELLED

Hi Folks;

As I sit here at home â€" because the office is closed, the snow is deep, the temps are in freefall, and the winds are picking up â€" it feels kinda weird to be sending out a match reminder for this weekend at the OKC Gun Club. …..however, as I’m ever the eternal optimist:

This weekend â€" IPSC match at the gun club will DEFINITELY possibly be held… we hope… perhaps… hey, it could happen!

All kidding aside, at this point we are planning to have the match however nobody knows how badly the bays may be drifted or anything yet. Since Saturday is currently forecast to be the first day where the temperature get above freezing at all, I doubt things will vastly change.

I have stages for reasonably clear bays, and I have some we can safely use if there’s a lot of much or snow drifts around to the point we need to restrict movement. We also have some options with the buildings we can always take advantage of… The real issue will be getting in and out.

BE SURE TO CHECK THE WEBSITE FRIDAY EVENING FOR ANY UPDATES!! I will plan on posting the conditions whether the match is on or not. The last thing I want is to have someone make a long trip for nothing. If someone is there before Friday, please let me know what you see.

I hate to be the messenger on this, but I got this email from the match director this evening...

Hi Folks;



I’m sure this will come as no big surprise â€" and perhaps a certain amount of amusement at my expense for thinking we might’ve been able to have a match in the first place, given the week we’ve had.



We talked to several folks â€" including some video from surveillance. Between poor road conditions, drifting in the bays, no way to clear the parking areas, and the temps being where they’re staying…. it “ain’t improving” any time soon. It’s just not safe. I’d been hoping for some warming before match day â€" that won’t happen either.



So, with regret and apologies to all, we’ve decided to pull the plug on the match this month and be safe.



Please help pass the word to anyone who may not know. If you ‘discover’ shooters who may not be on this email list, have them send me an email and I’ll add them to the list.

Heard on the weather today that there won't be any appreciable melting until Saturday. So this is probably the best decision.

Hi Folks;

I just set up an account on your forum because I wanted to get the word out that I had to cancel the IPSC match tomorrow. All things considered, it's probably no surprise, but I'd appreciate any help in getting the word out. Many [most] of our shooters come from a good ways out and the next-to-last thing we want is for someone to make the trip in crap conditions and find that there is no match.
The worst thing of course is to get someone hurt due to weather/range conditions, which is why Matt and I agreed to cancel the match last night.

Robbie is going to be depressed. He has just been back from Wisconsin for a week or so and was really looking forward to getting to shoot in the winter. Oh well, he shouldn't have brought this weather down with him.
