Well I got the approval today to attend the long range rifle instructor school at Oklahoma County. I have a 26 inch Remington 700 Sendero that I've been shooting 168 gr nossler over 43.5 grains of varget powder with good results.

do any of you shoot long range rifle with handloads?

I'd be interested to see what recipe you all are using for 308

if my math is correct... and not saying it is but i should have around 300 per thousand by loading it.. and i gotta take a minimum of 750 to the school.

I shoot a Savage 10 FCP McMillan with a Zeiss 6.5-20x scope. I have shot F/TR for a couple years. My old load was winchester brass, CCI large rifle primers (I didn't see any change in scores with the match primers), 43.9 gr RE-15 and 175 gr Berger VLD. Good load.

Best score at 600 yds was 193-4x and factory Savage bull barrel. I hate the velocity spreads RE-15 gets in hot weather. I was having to adjust up to 2 MOA elevation with temps above 95 degrees. 175 gr Berger is great to 600 yds.

I'm beginning to experiment with Lapua brass, varget and 210 gr Berger VLD. I have only fired some test loads playing with seating depth and powder weights. Not happy with any combination yet. Hoping the 210 gr Bergers perform better at 1,000 yds.

well the load I settled on was a 168 gr Nossler, 44.2 grains of varget with an OAL of 2.825

the 100 yard makes a ragged hole.. I'm going to try to stretch it out a little this weekend... I mean hell the class is next week so why be in a rush

Have you check out the Winchester Ballistics tool? I've been reading quite a bit about ballistics, which is very important when selecting ammo

Winchester Ballistic Silvertip seem to have a very good flight pattern
