Para made Dbl stack P16 and P16 Limited in 40cal. Holds 16 + 1 . I have owned both when I played USPSA / ISPC. Only used tuned factory mags with Gram mag extensions 20 + 1. Needed the round count and power factor to be competive. Ran lighting fast and a hell of a lot of fun.

RIA still makes a 40 S&W 1911. They are hard to find sometimes but they are being made. In general, they are less finicky than 10mm because the shorter cartridge is just easier to chamber.

I have several (50+) .45 magazines and found that a few of them would function with .40 S&W ammunition. Most would not.

As I am the OP, how I came to this issue, I saw in a EM from CDNN that they had 40cal Mer-gar mags on sale for $19.99 and I have never seen a 40cal 1911 and that is why I started the post. As I started looking around to see If others had 40cal 1911 mags I found this list at Gunmag

and they have the same Mer-gar 40cal's on sale for $17.99. Now I understand money being tight but if you can you should get over to the correct 40cal mags asap.
I will keep an eye open for any sales on them, and post it here but $17.99 seems to be a very good price far better then WC 47D's at $36
and Gunmag has a 10% off on $100 purchase also.

I discovered gunmagwarehouse a few yrs. ago..best variety of mags for a particular firearm , rifle or pistol. That they often have the best price is great, but they also provide fast servive. Orders I've made ship quickly. Have never had a bad experience with GMW, which is why they've become my go-to for mags.
I've bought my share of mags from them too. Great prices on Hi Power mags, and 7rd Metalform mags with the round followers.

I ran into them shortly after they opened about 2013-14 right after the big 2012 price increase problem but I/we have found sale prices a little better else ware.
My group down here have been looking out 6-12 months for sales on mags that were needed and have been able to find sales at other places. Some guys bought mags before they bought the gun to use them in.
CDNN was good for Beretta, Midway was good for WC 47D's & Ruger MK, Aim & Primary Arms was good for Glock and PSA was good for Pmags.
I got the guys down here to buy on the sales and they were looking out for that 6-12 month period and almost all saved some fair money by doing that.
12 guys bought 2000+ pmags at $6.99 ea. back in 2012 from PSA as an example.

Thanks for the magazine info. The barrel and slide came with a stainless .40cal 8 round Mec-Gar mag that won't feed reliably. I don't know the history of the mag, if it never fed right or was messed with or what. The gun is just a plinker for me that I put together very cheaply and since I had so many .45 mags I thought that I would try a few. Some work well, some don't.
It's not really a matter of cost, I just haven't been concerned about getting the proper magazines for a pistol that is more of a novelty for me than anything that I will ever depend on for self defense.
But I sincerely appreciate the information and will probably order a few.
