Just thinking out loud here, venting, or whatever.

Years ago I had a smith do a little work on my SA Range Officer. Things happened, long story short, it became almost a build, just lacking a few cosmetic things and a nicer finish. The gun was Parkerized, and that was how it was refinished. I love this gun, shoot it well.

I decided I wanted a full custom, over 3 or 4 years, got it done! The only thing I would change on the build would have been to have the trigger DLC'd too. No complaints, gun looks great and shoots great, it is a Colt large billboard.

But, when I grab a gun to carry, or even at the range, I tend to grab the SA. My wife's favorite gun to shoot is the SA RO. I am contemplating selling the Colt, building a nice 300 BO AR pistol, and putting the money into my house and or bank account. I don't grab the SA because the Colt is a safe queen, I grab it because it feels best in my hands.

Keep the Colt, sell it... Just rambling.

Finally my two favorite guns, Ruger service-six 357 & Sig 938...they both fit my paws just right...need that extended mag on the 938. Both very accurate, but then most guns are more accurate than the knucklehead behind the gun. Tried the Sig 365 somehow didn't feel right and didn't like the trigger on the curved or the straight trigger.
Now let's get some comments on 9 mm ammo for short barrel guns.

Pierre re: ammo for short barrel have you ever seen or heard of the you tube person That goes by, Tools & Targets? I watch him all the time, I really like his tests. He does a lot of short barrel testing, as does Gun Sam. Sam does a lot of revolver testing, and he is definitely someone to check out too. Paul Harrell is great too! Hope this gives you some food for thought.
Stay safe.

Nothing like a .357 revolver! Pretty sure I am going to sell the Colt.
My dad had a BlackHawk 357mag. It was the very first handgun I ever shot! I'm guessing I may have been around 11? No one wore ear protection back then (!964) and my ears rang for hours after that. I found one very similar to his a few years ago, and I bought it just for sentimental reasons. I bought a Smith 19-4 with a 4" bbl as my first handgun. Don't shoot it enough, but it is absolutely beautiful! I love revolvers, 1911's and Hi Powers. Old school rules....and It's still Very Cool.

Are you talking about the Black hawk? Dad bought in the early 60's I still remember the black, and yellow Ruger box it came in.

I have had a couple New Model Blackhawks..1st one was my 1st centerfire pistol purchase.
Sold it to a best friend years ago, after I bought the same pistol but a "convertible" model, which came with a fitted 9mm cylinder,
in addition to the 357 cylinder. Bought some nice looking larger, (but too smooth) hand stocks for it. Rarely shoot it, but no desire to sell it either.
I did recently sell what I consider my biggest disappointment in a handgun, ( besides my Glocks  ) my Dan Wesson Guardian.. a CMDR sized 9mm 1911.
Ruger NM Blackhawk 357 (R).JPGDan Wesson Guardian 9mm Cmdr. R.JPGI believe it was because of the aluminum frame it has.. I didn't shoot it well & disliked it for that reason.
I bought my Bul 9mm CMDFR. & it was exactly what I wanted. The DW Guardian was sold to someone looking for one..at least I got a good price for it.
Don't miss it at all, ( though it was nice to look at & hold.)

... "building a nice 300 BO AR pistol,.." I'll admit.that.I just don't get AR pistols.....

I have a Thompson Contender pistol, bought from a friend that needed money. Don't know why he had it, but he knew I'd give him some $ for it..
I guess I was the only "gun guy" he knew that had some $ & would buy it from him.. I tried shooting it a few times..it's too big to shoot like a pistol..too small to shoot like a rifle. I feel that's the case with AR pistols..only difference is they can use large capacity mags, where the Contender is a single-shot.

Spoke with a friend that told me he had one. We talked about it and he admitted, he got it "to try one", and that he hadn't shot it much,
and didn't enjoy shooting it as much as a rifle or pistol. Said he'd probably sell it, or trade it for something.

Maybe if I shot one, I'd see the attraction for an awkward-sized, bulletspitter, with random accuracy.
Seems too much like the Mac-10, Cobraray,, ilk that was a big fad in the 80's. Had another friend that bought an Uzi.. I shot it,
and was less than impressed with it as well, couldn't see the attraction. Maybe it's just me.
