Placed my order for this one a few months ago. Picked it up from my FFL today.

Hoping to hit the range with it in the morning.

Hard chrome frame. The rest is black nitride. 20 lpi frontstrap checkering. Gold bead front sight, Heine ledge rear. Chambered in .38 Super.

I like the 1-piece mainspring housing/magwell. Rounded butt allows shirt to glide over and not snag. Blended in fairly smoothly. No complaints.

Thank you gentlemen.

It's definitely a little different looking compared to my other 1911's.

It's a Falcon with a couple minor changes. I also considered going with a GRP and making the changes.

It's my second 1911 that has carry cuts. A cco-sized Valkyrie .45 is my first. I actually liked them on that little Valkyrie (excellent accuracy and handles the .45acp nicely.....easily carried) so much that I figured I'd roll with them on a 5" pistola.

Not saying I don't like them....just different.

They seem like a logical change if removal of fcs is the goal.....not the case in this gun.

If I was a one-gun-guy then I'd keep it simple and 100% functional.....like I plan on doing on a Colt build that's currently in Steve Owen's hands. That S70 is my only 5" Colt.

With this Nighthawk, though....I was leaning more towards the theme of variety being the spice of life.

Besides.....if I ever go into a new line of work....such as becoming a pimp.....I'll have a proper gat for the job.

All my 1911s are let say non standard as all except my first one are 4.25 or smaller.

You'll love that one from Steve when you get it back to! He's doing some awesome work. I haven't talked to him in a couple months though, I just never seem to have the time to sit and talk…..sucks!

I've gotta give him a call soon, too.

I sent him a check for the new S70 pistola + some funds to start on the work.....but I've recently figured out what direction I'd like to head with the weapon. I want to keep it as Colt-looking as possible...while making it into a rock solid weapon.

Sleeper look, yet 100% nasty under the hood

*tool steel internals

*break the sharp edges

*Low profile carry-style btgs & ring hammer or possible short spurred hammer

*20 lpi frontstrap checkering

*magwell mainspring housing, 20 lpi checkering on upper 2/3 surface that transitions to rounded butt. Blend in magwell funnel.

*gold bead front & Heine ledge rear

*slide rear serrations to match the rear sight

*maintain rounded top op slide

*slide-frame fitting scrutinized and snugged up as needed

*Kart barrel flush cut & reverse chamfered after mating to thick bushing & IA engraved recoil spring plug

*long solid trigger...hoping to find one that's semi-curved, almost flat

*Set of SK stag grips that I'll be sending in as well as a set of organic stippled wood grips from Gripwright....both fitted with IA medallions

That's a pretty solid list of wants! Steve will do you up good.

It had been a while since he & I kicked that gun build topic around, I sorta went into limbo (strictly on my end) for a while after buying the gun from him.

I've sent him my wishlist today and he's replied with some solid insight and stuff to consider.

I'm glad to have been able to get my mind around where I wanted to go with it and communicate it to him.

Now....it's mostly a wrap...in terms of decisions. Looking forward to a combat worthy pistola with some Colt heritage and a real deal hardcore bigtime muscle car motor under the hood.

No rush. No worries.

I've got a heap of stuff to keep me busy passing the time....like finishing my shelves for the reloading bench and then building an open workbench for gun maintenance and etc. And a pile of rifle-related projects that I should be able to tackle.

Trigger-therapy is good stuff.

Nice, I would be afraid to get a thing of beauty like that dirty.

Thanks.

I don't have safe queens nor plans to ever own any.

I have a few 1911's with only three of them being range guns…adj rears and such.

The rest are used for carry or hunting. This Falcon will be carried often after it proves itself reliable.

Ran into some delays getting range time with it and it's driving me nuts.

Hoping to be at the range when they open tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed.

I am anxiously awaiting the range report on that beautiful Hawk! Really hope it exceeds your expectations.

I don't have any high end full customs but have all of the semi custom manufacturers (except an ACW which is next) they all get used and carried, no safe queens here either. That is specifically why I switched to all commander size or smaller and a few are LWs.
