Alternatives to the AR

What do you want to do with it? There are lots of alternatives, some slightly different from an AR, others wildly different. There are piston conversions for the AR, such as the HK416 clones, which are a little different. There are those that are wildly different, such as the clones of the G36. You've already delved into the Bullpups. I like the HK93 and its clones a lot, but they're difficult to put optics on.
Each has their good aspects, and some have some bad. I believe I will eventually like a clone of the HK416 most, but there really is nothing much wrong with the AR, with a light, red dot and a magnifier.

The topic isn't a "what do you want to do with it"
It's a "if the AR15 platform, disappeared......." type of thread.
Don't over think it, just post some non-AR thoughts

Have thought about selling my Mini-14 & Mini-30, several times..but haven't.
I like to think that a confiscation of AR's would never happen. After recent events..
I doubt that anything is NOT possible.
May be why I still have my "Mini's" .. Also have a couple of levers..
Marlin 1894 (44 Mag) is very accurate with my handloads , loaded with H-110 & 240 gr JHP's

Also have a Remington 760 ? 7600 ? in '06 that I inherited from Dad.
He bought it, new , around '68..never ever shot it. and a Remington 74? in '06 (semi auto)
got as collateral for a loan ..20=+yrs ago..so..guess it's mine now.

I have been all over the place with AR15 alternatives.
I went the M1A route for sometime. I had a Scout and Socom, liked them both but they did not get much range time.
I have a Tavor X95, love the size and shoots great, a keeper.
I also have a Mini 14 and Mini 30. Both are great rifles, accurate enough for me, never an issue, love the wood stocks on both. The mini 30 is my hog gun. However last time I went hog hunting with the Mini 30 back home in Texas I felt under gunned. Buddy I was with had a .270 luckily. Had hog coming our way and I thought it was a VW bus. I'm saving up for a Tavor in .308.

So when Sandy Hook happened, I wanted an AR alternative out to 50-75 yards reliably. I chose semi auto shotguns with slugs. Not the most optimal for long range, but definitely effective for my situation. Extended tubes and shell carriers for more capacity.

3 in total. All of them are Benelli M4 H2O models. The finish is Titanium Cerakote. All have extended tubes and after market stocks (more padding).

Why 3 ? spares ? investments ?..... heard they weren't going to imported anymore ?
Probably a good investment. when any firearm is no loner available, prices for then rise..has been my experience.

Basically spares, but love the M4. Tried to justify other shotgun purchases, but always came back to the M4. A local shop back in the day had a lot of them in stock.

Enlarging my supply of shotguns was the last step in the development of my firearm collection.. I had a Mossberg 16 g. bolt action thatI bought back in the early 70's.. inherited a Sears 12 g. pump ( Win. Mod 100 ?) my Dad bought & never fired.. also a Spanish made 12g. side by side, that Dad bought & never fired...
In the late 80's a friend took me to a range & we tried shooting clay birds with one of those spring powered throwers. Thought it was fun, so decided I should buy a
better gun. Co-worker was a more serious shotgunner, (had a Perazzi ) talked about better brands, I preferred American made.. started to get a Remington 1100, but the came out with the 1187, so I got that instead. Shotgun subclub @ my Club suggested an entry level gun was a Browning Citori, but @ > $1K.. I thought it
was too expensive..got the Remington. Shot it a few times, & went into a gunshop & found a Citori 12g. "on sale"..so it followed me home.
A Mec Grabber shotgun shell reloader landed on my bench, along with 209 primers, powder, shot, & wads..started cranking out shells. Fun to learn new stuff.
Wanting to interest my sons, found a SKB autoloader in 20 g...that found it's way to the safe. Ended up buying a Red Label in 20g..'cause I really liked how it felt in my hands..so light, compared to the Citori.
Sad to say, but been years since I've shot any of my shotguns.

I have a "Mini-14, Mini-30, and a Mini in .300 blk. out". I have looked for years now trying to find one in 6.8 with no luck, since they stopped making them. I have also thought about selling them but haven't. That "new" bill that is circulating lists the Ruger Mini's as assault weapons now. I'm just going to wait in out.
First it will be high capacity, then high caliber , then semi auto , then single shot, [ sound fimiliar ! ] . And all along they will promise if you just tell us what you have we will charge you a small fee and you will be exempt from the new laws . This is why the 2nd amendment must be the line in the sand !
