Been shooting USPSA Single Stack for a few years. I'm currently shooting a Springfield RO Elite Operator in 9mm with Dawson Precision magazines and base pads. Every once when I go to drop the mags, they don't fall out. Usually at the most inopportune time. LOL.

So I just picked up a DW Specialist in 9mm. That's gonna be my main gun, the Springfield, the backup. It got me thinking that maybe I should try new magazines.

Are there any better than the Dawson's? I was looking at the Wilson's and the Tripp's. Are these better choices? Am I going to get the same results? Should I make the switch? Will I see a significant difference?

Any advice and opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I'd like to know too. Doesn't happen too often but sometimes they don't drop out. I'm SURE it's an IO problem...

Follower, spring, release or slide stop, just which one or all do you clean mags? internally take apart? You would be surprised as to all the crud that gets in them. Mag well cleaned in pistol? At the least wash mags in hot water.
I use Wilsons and Mc Cormick and have no issues.

After every few matches I break the mags down completely to clean them. I use a magazine brush and I spray them down with Shooter Lube. My go to gun and mag cleaner. And yes they do get cruddy pretty quick!!!

Any wear marks on the offending mags that might show where they are being held in? I would make sure the mag release is fitted properly, make sure the grip screws are not too long. Take the grips off and look closely for any burs or something that could be holding the mags in.

Never heard of Dawsons. I don't normally comment in any topic relating to the Punibellum cartridge, but will make an exception. Wilson and Tripp are top-shelf mags and you could not find better anywhere.

Yeah I've been hearing about them as well. Wish I could try both brands and then decide which to buy. Lol
Ordered 3 colt 8 round SS mags two work great one will not feed. The bullet takes a nose dive into the front part of the mag as the receiver takes the cartridge & tries to push it into the chamber ??? Never had that happen before

That sucks!!! Is it just a matter of tuning the mags like 2011 mags get tuned? Is it fixable or is just bad luck of the draw?

I have several 1911's and about 12 Wilson 47 mags, we shoot weekly and many Mc Cormick also, with these never had any issues at all I admit I trust the 47's more for matches.

UGG Joe. Ya shoulda got the Tripps for 9mm! And don't clean your mags with shooters lube! That's probably why they were sticking. Use Alcohol only, keep 'em pristine and dry!

I use Wilson also in IDPA, drop free every time, never had mag issue with those, few times mag didn't drop was me having gun canted to much and stopped gravity from helping, all on me, running these out of Desert Eagle/Bul 5" 9mm

Are you "pinning" the mag with the mag release? *** get the dremel out.
Has the next round be drug out from under the feed lips causes a partial mag to hang up in the frame? *** time for new springs.

I only use metalform/Dawson mags in all my SS 9mms. Sometimes you have to tune them a little when new or after you have stepped on them a couple times, to make sure that don't drag in the frame..

remove the slide, load one round in the mag and make sure it falls out of the frame smooth. ( I load one round, so that if the feed lips are starting to spread, you will know) Also at the same time you can check to make sure the nose of the bullets don't touch the slide stop.

clean your mags with brush or pull thru rag.. no oil... anytime I have an issue, ALL the mags get checked over, feed lips measured & adjusted if required, test for drop free in bare frame, cleaned and a little dry graphite is added to each tube.
