I love the ballistics of the 10mm Auto, I had a Delta Elite years ago but sold it (sob) because I was young and foolish, and wanted more choices on ammunition. But, I've been considering the 10mm again, and feel there are many more effective cartridges available now and recent events make justifying a new handgun (with my better half) easier. Has anyone had any experience with the XD, and or the XD in 10mm? I'm curious about dependability and trigger quality. Thanks for your input. BTW, I would take a 1911, but I like the magazine capacity of the XD-M.

I am also a 10mm fan. Mine include the XD, Delta Elite, NHC Predator and STI Nitro10. The capacity and trigger on the XD are great. I find the recoil on the XD to be more noticeable than any of the others and it takes more effort to control. It is not hard to manage, just different than the others. I think for the price and durability factor of the XD10 it is a great choice. It is easier for me to shoot accurately and manage recoil with any of the others in 1911/2011 platform. The STI is also a double stack hi cap and shoots great. It is about 2.5x the price tag of the XD. Of all the above my NHC Predator (5" bbl single stack standard 1911 profile) is my #1 pick for accuracy, recoil management and daily carry. Can't go wrong with a 10mm!

I like the round.
I have a couple of g20s, a g29 and a g40 which I've yet to shoot. Just haven't got to it yet. I picked it up from a guy who replaced it with an xdm long slide 10mm.

When it cools down some I'll get her out to the range.

The Great 10mm rnd used to be hard to find, especially at a decent price. No now. Magtech 180 can be had for about $15 a box shipped.
I sold all my 45's to go back to the 10.

I have several 10mm, but I have to say my new XDM 10mm is my favorite, I bought the 4,5" barrel, because it has a closed dust cover, which I prefer, and I replaced the sights with Dawson Precision adjustable sights, the sights on the 5.25" barrel model are not replaceable , this gun is totally accurate, easy to handle and just fun to shoot, i'll be reloading fot this one, and so far I've been using 180 gr, with excellent results

Being an American and proud of my country, I have to ask SA why this gun wasn't made in AMERICA?

Thanks for the information, the only issue I have is I don't have the mitts for double stack 10mm's. I grew up shooting first my dads, then when I was 16 I bought my own Ruger .44 mag. Recoil doesn't seem to bother me as it does others so my main consideration is just grip size. I like the XD, but I'm looking for a range in my area that has one to try out. Thanks again!

Great review of the XDM. I'm curious, did you have any issues with the grip size? A friend of mine had a Glock 20, and with the double stack mag, it was too much for me to hang on to comfortably without having to re-adjust my grip after discharge. Do you have any experience with the Glock 20, and if so, how does the grip compare? Thanks for your time on this.

Your question about trigger quality is a good 1.
I was dry firing my buds 5.25 and found the trigger to be pretty much std stricker fired quality.

I really like my XDm 5.25 9mm. (for a plastic gun) I have a Powder River Match trigger group in it and I have yet to find any other polymer striker pistol, even modified ones, whose trigger is better than my XDm. In 9mm, it's been 100% reliable shooting my 147gr handloads in IDPA and USPSA.

When I was looking for a 10mm, with higher capacity to replace my DW Specialist .45 as a bedside gun, I ended up choosing a Tanfoglio Witness Match Elite instead. The Tanfoglio has a 15 round mag, a single action trigger, a thumb safety and a STEEL frame. The trigger isn't as good as a GOOD 1911 trigger, but it's way better than any stock polymer striker trigger, and I haven't done any work to it. Don't think I will for my purpose.

I did replace the front sight with a Dawson F/O.

Good info, tenwolves, thanks.

Terdog, because it probably wouldn't be affordable/possibly importable.

I started with a couple glocks then XDs then moved to the XDMs and finally g20s and a g40.

I have an XDM 45 compact with a horrible trigger so I bought a Powder River kit: fantastic trigger now and excellent customer service!
I'm just not into race guns.

I have the glock 20 and the G 41 6 in bbl with red dot for hunting, use the 20 for doing armed security and HD, with the dual recoil spring it seems to have less recoil than my 45 cal. I have stuck with glocks as thats what our dept issued, got used to them

I'll list my 10MM in order of merit
1. EAA Witness Elite Match, great but heavy.
2. XDM 5.25, unmodified
3. XDM 4.5, replaced recoil spring with 22# Wolfe.
4 G-20, unmodified
5. G-29, Real minor mods like bigger slide release.

That's all I have. I have shot many kind of ammo through the 5.25, well all really just more in the 5.25. Supposedly both XDM's use the same recoil spring weight, but I thought the 4.5 kicked more with the same ammo, so I have replaced the spring but need to shoot it. I have stock everything on my 5.25, happy with the sights, trigger is pretty good. I am familiar with Powder River Precision (PRP) and have their products on several guns, I know they are better, still my stock trigger on my 5.25 is pretty good, maybe later for the PRP.
I use Underwood 155 Gr XTP ammo for carry and the biggest I have in inventory are 200 grain. Out in the woods of western Oregon a 38 snubby would work for woods carry, so a 10 MM would work better
The blocky Glocks work, the XDM's feel better in in my hand.

So make it in America, charge a fair price.

Don't tell me that there's no market to support that American made gun. Look at the quality of American made products that Dan Wesson can make, at a price thats is acceptable.
IMHO, its just SA being greedy.

Sorry OP. Hijack over.

SA bought the rights to use the name SA. The polymer pistols are imported from Croatia under the SA name. They were made in Croatia long before SA began importing them. While I agree with you about DW, many pistols are imported. Why would SA build a new factory here to make pistols they can import that are already selling well?
The real question is why do ANY polymer pistols have the price that they all have? Once the mold is made, it's got to be pennies to make a frame.

No argument from me; DW makes fine pistols.

I just wasn't comfortable having that kind of money in guns that could get dropped on a bench or on a rocky trail.

Xd/xdm/Glock, they're made for that life.

My thoughts only.

No disrepect, Rick. I'm sure it's a great gun - for you. I've just never warmed up to plastic guns. Perhaps it's a generational thing, I don't know? But I've always been a "blue steal & gun leather" guy.

It really doesn't take a "new factory" to make a pistol. it would be a production run, then change to something else.

I am aware that they are importing a pistol that is already being made. I don't feel that is a reason though for slapping the SA name on it. Again, thats for max profit with no concern for the country where its being sold. And SA often plays on its American history as a selling point.

And SA has a checkered history in its concern for anything other than its own interest. And yes, I do own a SA (TRP OP 6" 10MM).
