Does anyone else here use pellet guns for just practicing when the weather is too crappy outdoors and just don't feel like driving to an indoor range ? I love it as it is cheap and your still using marksmanship and doesn't bother the wife or kids .

Yes. I've posted on this subject both here and on other forums about using CO2 and spring-fired pellet guns for indoor practice. It doesn't appear to be something that members here care much about even though it's very popular in Europe.

I have a .22 RWS 350 magnum pellet rifle used for fun, practice and pest control in the yard. I also have a Sig Sauer 1911 BB Pistol for rainy day practice. It was a Xmas gift last year, it feels like a 1911, breaks down and operates like a real 1911. Thumb and grip safety both function, load a CO2 cartridge and BB's in the magazine, rack the slide and you're ready to shoot. Pull the trigger and a BB fires off the slide comes back, picks up a new BB and locks it up ready to shoot again.

I find it helps with grip and other aspects such as holstering and drawing and there is no noise to rile up the neighbors so it is a win win for everybody .

I have a Benjamin 177 pump pellet gun, it's more sentimental than regular practice. I learned to shoot with my uncles 22cal Benjamin pump pellet gun as a little kid! I told my wife about it a few times and she got me one for Christmas one year! I do shoot it but not often.

I had a .22 cal Benjamin rifle and gave it to my eldest grandson about 5 years ago. I have an inexpensive 177 Remington rifle and a very good Air Arms .22 cal target rifle with a scope on it. It will take out squirrels and rabbits out to 50 yds+. For outdoor pistol practice, it's hard to beat the Crossman 2240 CO2 pistol for great fun very cheaply (about $65). I get about 65 to 70 shots from a single CO2 cartridge.

Wow Old Gunner 43! That stainless looking .45 copy really looks great. Does it shoot
as good as it looks?

The stainless-looking one is a Swiss Arms "Tactical Rail System" 1911 .177 BB gun with a full recoiling slide. It's reasonably accurate at 5 yards with steel BBs - capable of a 3" grouping for about 40 shots. I use it primarily for practicing my draw stroke and firing one or two shots from condition 1 carry. It weighs about 37 oz. with a full magazine (15 BBs) and it fits my OWB holster just like my regular 1911s do. The recoiling slide adds some realism and it has 3-dot sights. The best part is that I can practice in my apartment without disturbing any neighbors.

I've been thinking about getting one of these to help keep the squirrels out of the bird feeder. How accurate are these at 20 yards?

I always wanted to try a big bore pellet gun, something in 357 but I really don't need another addiction!

1911U004,
Now we're talking about serious target pistols!

For Razer,
Any decent quality air pistol or rifle, CO2 or "springer", should handle your squirrels. I would suggest a .22 cal. rather than .177. You might be challenging your pistol shooting ability at 20 yards, but even my relatively inexpensive ($140) Remington air rifle is up to the task. Go browse the options on pyramydair.com.

Razer, follow Oldgunners advice. Any decent springer in .22 will take care of tree rats. Stay away from the PCP guns. After you have invested the $$$ in the bottle and accessories it becomes a slippery slope that will EASILY cost as much as your 1911 addiction. Starlings at 60-70 yds get pretty easy with enough cash outlay.

Just goes to show that many "1911 Addicts/Fanatics" are also "shooting fanatics". If it involves pulling, pressing, or manipulating a trigger to punch precise groups of holes in paper, score on metallic targets, or bag wild critters, we'll find a way to do it. The more the merrier!

I always use my 1911 airgun since your ammo is so much cheaper than practice ammo for the .45 , I get so much satisfaction from it since I use my holster for it and it keeps me on my toes .

View down range from my desk

Crosman 2300 is a perfect plinking pistol for the office.
Feinwerkbau Piccolo is a nice smaller match pistol for the office.

When you are shooting at office distances you want to be able to put them all in a dime........or at least a quarter (accuracy is always more interesting anyway)

When you are sitting at your desk or making morning phone calls the match pistols with better triggers, sights, accuracy are more fun (Feinwerkbau, Steyr....The Morini with electronic trigger is really fun!)

The umerex .177 replicas such as sig, colt, glock don't have the accuracy or the trigger to be as fun at indoor range distances
