I went to Action Pistol today to play with all three guns, and there was a sign up saying "Range Closed". Cowboy Action/SASS was doing their match, though, so I went to see if I could use an empty bay. They told me that the range would be closed all week for something called "The Land Run", and that all the bays were in use and would be closed until after "The Land Run". Which sucked big time. The website says the Land Run event is from April 19th through 22nd. That is five days away.

The Landrun is the biggest event that the Cowboys have and it happens once a year out there. They end up using the ENTIRE action shooting side of the range from the black powder area on the south end all the way to the long range bay on the north end and everything in between. I don't know how much actuall shooting goes on but the whole place will be full for at least that week if not more.

Damn, Burk, that's actually pretty funny. Now if only I could tell whether they were telling the truth about the range being closed from now until April 22nd....

The okcgc online calendar shows the action pistol range closed all week.

I vote we all show up with our 3 gun gear and try to enter their match. We should wear cowboy boots though. They have some sort of dress code.

That's right. In case it's muddy their boots don't get as much mud on them. This is a intriguing concept to me still.

I was planning on going this weekend to test one of my AR's I have had a part for a paint job, but I checked the calendar before hand and saw that it was closed. Yeah it may have put a cramp on my plans, but that range is for all types of action shooting.

The range is closed. They do this every year, and its a big match, and major kudos for them. I have all the respect for them, and honor their requests. The cowboys do a lot of work to that range, and we 3g and ipsc shooters reap their benefits.

When I shot at OKCGC, I enjoyed the buildings. Robbing the bank, looting the mine shaft, raiding the whore house. I say let them cowboys have all the fun they want. We all benefit from a good range and equipment and no need to start a fight when there's no point really.

Showing up to a cowboy match with 3 gun gear would just make you look like an ass and might hurt our genre of shooting at that range. Good idea bad idea. Bad idea.

I guess I'll start checking the site calendar. Does anyone who Chairs action pistol send out emails about the range closures, akin to Arbogast and workdays or John Bent and IPSC info? I can't find my contact list for the club.

Before i moved here we had a nice reange with club house. Needless to say there was always something going on. To expand the clubs experince we always gave up our dates/bays when one of hte other clubs had something major going on. If not, nothing would get accomplished except pissing on each others parade and match dates. I see this as how ranges/clubs should respect each other.

It is to bad the dates were listed wrong, but you have to respect the first 3Gunners and the better cowboy shooters are just freaking awsome!

John Bent IS the chairman of Action Pistol

The dates aren't listed wrong. It says the range is closed and it is.

this.

Old Retired Shooters love cowboy action shooting. Most gun clubs, except for places with paid staff like USSA, are kept running by Old Retired Shooters. When I still shot at Red Castle a lot, they were always the ones out there fixing the target stands, picking up trash that all the idiot kids left out, fixing the clay target throwers, etc. They also did most of the work on the indoor range.

We already smile and nod when an ORS tells us that our plastic AR-15 "poodle shooters" are crap and we should get a Garand, or they insist that the 9mm "Europellet" we're shooting is for wusses and Real Men only shoot 45. We do that because without them we wouldn't have a place to shoot. So if they want to take a week to run around and do Rio Bravo cosplay then that's fine, because they keep the range nice so that the rest of the year we can do Blackhawk Down cosplay with out ARs and Glocks.

The first time I shot at Land Run (1996) fell on my anniversary....I asked my wife if she minded if I went...she said "Yeah, you just go ahead and go to that Land Run"...so I did.
We ain't married anymore...go figure

Hmmm. My next Elk hunting trip is the same weekend as our 25th wedding anniversary.
I'm thinking about what I need to do.....
