I was wondering if shooting a bunch of classifiers and moving to a higher rank to quick can be a bad thing? Will it hurt me in the long run?

If you go to Ponca and pay to shoot 100 classifiers to get a GM card then yes. If you shoot classifiers to your honest skill level and get bumped well you earned your higher classification card.

If Ponca City is really doing that and letting you stack up classifications, then thats total horsehit.

Dont get in a hurry. Enjoy the learning curve. In the long run, hou'll be better off.

I think being classified at your actual skill level is the way to go. The system is not perfect but it is pretty good when used according to it's design.

No need to be in a rush. Just enjoy the sport and have fun.

I don't mean just this Ponca match I was talking about overall. I am just shooting the classifiers one time.

run the classifiers just like you would any other stage; get hits on steel, and A's on paper as fast as you can.

That doesnt mean shoot fast and try to luck into A's and hits on steel. You do that and you will have a good way to track your progress in the sport. and if you do that, you wont be in any class that you dont belong in.

The classification system is a turd. They don't represent that field course type shooting that actually occurs in matches. If someone setup a match with all classifiers but the classifiers didn't count, nobody would shoot the match. With that said I undersatand the need for the classification system USPSA has. Unfortunately I don't have a better alternative solution so I am just one I'd those jerks that cat lady about the problem but can't fix it.

The only bad thing about being classified lower than you can shoot in actual matches is that some a$$holes that love shooting classifiers and don't like losing at matches will call u a sandbagger.

From what I've read it didn't used to be that way. The game seems to have changed but the classification system hasn't.

Look at major match results, M's beat A's and A's beat B's. The classification system isn't perfect but it works decently.

Shooters who shoot way over their classification at a qualifying major get bumped too. So if a shooter goes to a big match and shoots against a bunch of GM's and beats the other guys in their class they get bumped. If you don't shoot a lot of USPSA but shoot a lot of 3 gun and get better with a handgun yeah you're going to climb the results, but you're not really a sandbagger. That requires purposefully shooting crappy classifiers in order to stay in B or C where its safe and warm and out of the terrifyingness which is A.

if that was in ref to my post thanks.
I don't articulate well, especially when I post with "feeling". That and I wasn't to sure if it was on topic or not.

If it wasn't about my post oops lol

It was about your post.

No... if you can shoot at that level you should compete at that level.

There may be a few people out there with some natural talent that will acclerate...some folks may get lucky at a classifier... but all in all it will prove out over the course of the year.

Do I want an "A" classification duh yea it would be great BUT I don't shoot at that level as I still have a bunch to learn! I bought 5 cards for Revo and L10 yesterday when I was in Ponca and shot, no do over cause how to better figure my actual ability? if I screw a classisifer like I did that means I still have things to learn so I just shoot and let the classification fall where it may.

So folks just pick things up faster than others that's just how the world works. Later,

Kirk

The proper way to do it is to think you're a bad mother and try to shoot the classifiers really fast but then shoot all Charlies and Deltas because you're not actually a bad mother. Then joke around and say you're "sandbagging" but secretly die a little inside.

At least that's what I do, YMMV.

A classifier only shows what you did on x day with y conditions.
The remainder I deleted do to ranting.

It'll never be perfect, I actually wonder why we need a system at all since the major 3 gun matches get along fine without one. But I still find a shooters classification a decent idea of what he/she is capable of. Ceasing to care how you shoot them and just doing it like you're trying to win a match is the best way to nail really good runs. Letting your brain just do it and getting out of the way is the key here anyway.

And also I find that I shoot better when I'm intent on kicking someones ass.
