Round counts for Heavy Metal?

I have been tumbling around the thought of trying out heavy metal this month, If my 45 isnt done then no biggie Ill shoot my AR. Im just wondering if the round counts are the same for heavy metal at least in the rifle portions? Since 100 rounds of 223 vs 100 rounds of 308, well thats a large difference to say the least.

Paper targets only require 1 hit on paper to neutralize with 308.

It depends on how they score it. Sometimes one A zone hit with a .308 is enough sometimes 2 hits are required. I always shoot the same number of rounds both .223 and .308( that is if you don't miss)

Well then i need a reloading press. Cant be buying 308 outright.

Loading 308 isn't cheap either. Realize that you'll need $100 in powder to load 1000 rounds, once fired cases aren't cheap and neither are bullets. I can load 1K of 308 for around $300-325 if I get 2-3 loads on the cases. I'll still going to try HM though, its where all the cool kids play.

You can get good quality milsurp that's berdan primed for almost the same money that rolling your own costs. Just leave the brass in the grass. Use the milsurp on the hoser stuff and your good loads on the long range stages.

Yea Ive loaded 308 for my 700 and that I can deal with because I usually only shoot 40 rounds and the brass are easy to keep up with. But for a semi-auto competition rifle I def think the surplus stuff might be better. At least for the 100 yds and closer. I went looking for some last gunshow, but there wasnt a bulk ammo guy there.

You're not that far away by buying commercial 308 either if you can pick up the cases for resale. Assuming you can get it for around 500 per K. Several options with reloading only being one of them. Just watch for magnetic bullets, lots of ranges wont allow them for matches.
