Why no IDPA?

If I do IDPA I am gonna go all emo steam punk (with a Mod Stylish Avant-garde Dark Punk Hood Cape Cardigan Jacket) or something like that.

Don't forget that you can shoot like you would in real life too. Reloads with retention my ass! I'm dumping the empties, reloading and going back to shooting or getting the hell outta dodge. The hell with the brass. Shooting on the move? :onthequiet:

You can leave a empty on the ground if you shoot dry

Retention ( tactical) reloads require retention of unspent ammo.

Round dumping to get to slide lock is gaming and gets a penalty.

The whole reason for 10 round limits and reloading rules is to make the shooter plan his ammo use. If thats the game and how its scored shoot it and have fun.

The concept of tactical reloads and mag retention has real world basis and is taught to defensive and leo folks routinely.

IDPA may not be a perfect representation of all things competitive... but it keeps me aware of the fact every bullet fired in a defensive situation has a lawyer attached to it.

They are both games and need to be thought of as such. Both work skill sets and in my opinion USPSA develops those skills much more efficiently. Don't confuse mindset and tactics with a gun game. Just go have fun
Yea what he said!! Good point

If I remember correctly, the penalty for round dumping in the past was and FTDR (20 sec). Under the new rules, the FTDR was done away with and therefore so was the round dumping. Both were impossible to prove the shooters mindset and intent.

Let me correct myself, FTDR is still in the current rule book. I am still searching the what I heard about round dumping. Any FTDR has to be approved by the MD. In the 13+ years that I have been shooting IDPA, I have never seen one issued.

One of my shooting buddies is Roger Reid. I know he was called on a cover penalty because his knuckles was showing. I don't know if that's the same as a ftr but regardless I have been in a gun fight. I'm sure my knuckles were showing. I didn't get a penalty for not effectively using cover.

I guess it would be fair to say that the round dumping rule was not done away with so to speak, it's just not addressed at all in the new rule book. So,,,,,,again I say it would impossible to prove in order to issue the FTDR. Whatever................

Give the shooter the problem and let them solve it.......................

I agree with you Chris. I was taught that there are no rules in a fight. A fight of any kind. But, we are still talking about a "game" and games have rules. IDPA, USPSA, none of them are tactical training. So,,,,if you like it, shoot it. If not,,,,don't.

Ive never seen either called myself.

The way most stages are set.... a mag dump would take more time to shoot than it takes to retain a partial. The usual stages are not that huge.... and when does force a tac reload its there to test that skill. I've shot outlaw matches with all mags shortloaded to force reloads... the idea is to test the task against time.

Those of you with the biggest opinions.... join and fix it.... or stay where your at. We got close to appendix carry last year. Last year was the first rulebook revision since IDPA's charter.

And yes.... in a real gunfight the rules go out the window.... but motor skills are motor skills.

I get a penalty for starting reloads on the move every match....the penalty doesnt offset good hits. Like uspa you cant miss fast enough to win.

Thats some ambitious RO- ing. The rule asks for 50% cover.... wasnt there.... but any RO calling knuckles would be defending that call in any club or bigger match I've shot.
