What base pads do I need?

I'm shooting a Glock 34, and would like to maximize my capacity but stay within the 140mm rule for limited. Which base pad should I be looking at to give me the most extra rounds while staying Limited-legal?

edit- I'm looking for manufactured pads that add rounds but don't adversely affect the mag reliability. I'm not looking for something that requires me to trim down the follower for that one extra round that ends up having as many problems as some of these 2011 mags I see. Just a few extra rounds to help reduce the chances of needing to do a reload if I have to fire a couple more pick up shots than I plan for.

I'm glad you said Dawson are good. 11 dollars difference each between the TT and the Dawson, that's pretty significant, especially if I can convince the wife to let me get large frame Glock pads for my G41 also so I can start shooting Limited Major. Ah, to be a billionaire. This millionaire thing means I have to give up too much of what I really want. Wait, did I say millionaire? I meant hundredaire.

I use Dawson tool-less for my XDm. Very satisfied, but TTI were not yet available for XDm at the time. Either way, Tony has what you need. I'll be getting 3 more, one of these days.

Edited because of the damned auto fill self correcting crap

TTI is my favorite, I've had the Dawsons get full of sand and had to hammer them open. Dawsons are still good though. Stay away from the Arredondo Self Disassembling Magazine Extensions.

The Dawson's do get stuck from time to time.

No Arredondo. Thank you. One of the Open guys on my squad in the last USPSA had a mag come completely apart in his gun during a stage. I wonder if he was using that brand.

OP be aware that with any of them, you might have to file/bevel the mag body and/or follower so the follower does no get hung up in the transition from the extension to the mag.

Good to know, I thought I was just really really weak................come to think of it that is probably part of it too :)

I run dawson on my STI and glock mags and like them. If they are hard to open I just push in the lock with another mag and they always slide then. I was talking with someone today who said their brand new Taran tactical locking pin fell out maybe a isolated problem but I'll stick to dawson.

I have dropped a pin on my TTI too. It just slides in and out. If you push too far it's all the way out. I get 24 rounds of 9mm in my mags with the TTI spring and follower kit. The Dawson's with grams only got me 23 rounds.

I think I'd rather have a base pad that's difficult to take apart than have one that comes apart too easily. 23 rounds vs 24, when I am currently running 17 in the mag, and 11 bucks cheaper per pad. I think I'll go with Dawson first. Maybe I'll put a Match Saver on my slide in case I really need that extra round.

I havent tried the +6 TTI pads but I have the +4 pads on my G34 and they work fine. You dont need a new spring with the small TTI pads.

They are very well made and give a little extra weight to help drop free.

I've had both Dawson and TTIs on 2011s, Glocks, and M&Ps. Hands down, TTI for me. They're just easier to get apart and look a lot nicer too.

There's a set screw to put tension on the pin. If it's too loose the sliding pin comes out easily.

Btw: the Dawsons can come apart on you as well. If the detent comes out, the slide will slide all the way off.

I sell about the same amount of both & don't have any complaints on either.

What Tony said.
Use the set screw to put a little bit of tension on the pin so it doesn't freely move, but still easy enough to slide without having to unscrew the set screw.

With this discussion about having mags that come apart easily and all, I'm starting to think I have the most amazing magazoines in the history of magazines, because I have been using the same Glock mags for six years now, and I just bought the GTUL set to take them apart. I have never cleaned them before this weekend, and I have had maybe a handful of magazine-related malfunctions in thousands of rounds. Of course, now that I have the ability to take them apart easily, I'll do so, because it seems to be the cool thing to do between stages, brush out mags and talk about how finicky your gear is. If my 7 mags can't make it through a 300-round match while being rotated, there's an issue.

I have listened to people talk about how finicky their 2011 mags can be and how finely tuned they get them, but I'll be using my Combat Tupperware for the foreseeable future, as those 2011s are so very spendy. For you folks that use Glock mags with aftermarket pads in competition, do they make the factory mags less reliable?
