Weak hand reload breakthrough

Been practicing reloads for over a month now. At a point it was getting very frustrating. Part of this is no matter what hobby I pick up, I always look to the absolute pros as my level to achieve. This gets me very motivated but if it just isnt working for me, it can drive me insane!

Anyways, I keep the shotgun shouldered (hard to do with a 28" barrel and an extended tube). My grabs are always good but the shells would never roll into place and I would usually end up bobbling the last two somewhere in or around the loading port before getting them in the tube. Yesterday I decided this just wasn't working and I needed to find my own way of doing this.

I kept the shotgun shouldered but rolled it up so the loading port is easier to get to. My reloads are now consistent and faster. I'm between 7.5-8 sec par time for loading 8 right now. This is a huge improvement from my ghastly "9 sec- if im lucky" loading!

It might be easier to learn with the gun down under your armpit rather than up on the shoulder.

I agree. even with the dismount and remount I am faster with weak hand load 8's with the buttstock under my armpit. I rotate the loading port up a wee bit myself. If everything went smooth keeping the gun shouldered would be faster, but I always bobble something and loose time. I just have more control with the gun brought in close to my body.

My problem is trying to switch from loading 3 at a time from a 6 round Cal Comp Caddy to a 4x4 AP custom. For some reason the 4th shell rolls up and stacks on top of the other three which causes me to drop it for the most part or bobble it going into the loading port. Do I need crazy long fingers to achieve this 4 shell technique or just more practice?

Can u load 4 out of the CCW caddy?
The same thing happens almost, somethimes it bunches up in my thumb and doesn't roll into place when I feed them. Gonna practice some more today and over the weekend to figure if I'm gonna stick with the load three at a time technique.

That reminds me, I got to start practicing reloading, the match is a 8 days away and we didn't have a match last month. I use 6 round caddy's and find that grabbng 4 then the remaining 2 is more consistent for me, with the exception of the stage we started the with the tube empty, I grabbed 4 from one caddy and 3 from another, having to grab for one more for the eight targets killed my time.

Post a picture if them bunched up in your hand. My guess us that something else is the problem. Bunch up shells load just fine.

If you can post a video of you reloading with close ups of you hands and the loading port that would be even better for us to help you break down the technique.

Thanks Jesse I'll work on the photo today and the video tomorrow at work if I can get to it.

OK how do I attach a photo I don't see an attachment icon in my options. Do I have to use the "My Media" and if so how does that work? I can email it if you are comfortable with that.

You have to upload your pics to an image hosting site then post the links on here.
OK you'll have to stand by then I'll need to get one of th ekids at work to show me how to do that.

Gettin a little faster. One thing that worked was trying to consciously keep a good fast, smooth tempo. Keeps my mind off of the actual mechanics of it all, seems to help.
