Transforming an M1 field into a 3 gun shotgun

Trapr, I'm not really sure how to ask this, but does the vent rib still 'work' basically the same with the XS on the back?

I've got a remmy rifle sight barrel (no vent rib) that I put their express sights on and I'm really liking it, but I haven't gotten a chance to take it out and shoot it yet.

I guess it depends on what you think the vent rib is supposed to do, originally it was to provide a clear picture of the target without distortion from heat waves coming off the barrel. So for that, yes it still works.

What were you thinking ti was supposed to do??

I've always thought as a sighting system it gave a nice intuitive line to point at something, also lets you know your head is in the right spot? I dunno.

if the gun fits you, then having the sight there will do nothing to your point-ability, I actually do not notice the sight until I need to use it, then shift focus from target to sight and its there ready to go, that's the beauty of the low profile XS sight. You shoot the SG like it should be, and then when you need a rifle you shift focus to the sights.

Do you guys mind if I move this sight discussion over to the shotgun forum? I have a few questions as well and I'd hate to muddy up this awesome thread about the M1 conversion and/or have shooters not be able to find it when searching for info about rear sights on shotguns.

there are a lot of little things that go into making a gun more user friendly, fit of the gun, polishing some of the small parts, even something as subtle as that slight curve at the top of the loading port on the stock photo you can see that its normally flat across the top. its also too much small stuff that can cause gun issues, "tolerance stacking" that can drive you nuts trying to figure out why the gun won't work now.

I just finished working on a friends gun, and had to simply replace a bunch of small parts because of tolerance stacking, it was easier than trying to figure out what he had done to the gun to make it malfunction. He thought he knew what he was doing, he didn't.......Too much trying to polish and grind and file to smooth stuff out and he caused himself to almost ruin the gun. Luckily his mods to the receiver were not TOO MUCH!!! If you're not sure or you "think" you know, stop and ask someone the does know, not someone that thinks they know.

The gun in question is finished and already sent to the new owner, it shot slugs straight and true, 4 out of 5 hits on the c zone target at OKC gun club range on the hundred yard berm, the first hit a bit low and the rest on target. It loads nicely and without hard edges to cut into the hand, runs 3dram loads without a hitch, the specs on it are as follows: Barrel cut to 19.5" and threaded for chokes, 3: cyl, lt mod, imp mod., LOP changed to 13.5" if memory serves me correctly, bolt shaved, lifter welded and tuned, shell stop polished and tuned, bolt cut for out of battery loading, fiber optic front sight and XS rear sight, RNT bolt drop paddle, Kickeez pad installed, extractor cut polished, loading port opened.
Nothing was done that didn't need to be done in order to make it more user friendly, and multigun ready. The gun shipped ready to race for 1/2 of what you would pay for other peoples work, for an M2. Think of the ammo you could shoot from the savings, you could make a worlds fastest shotgun loader video :girlwacko: pics were posted on the RNT facebook page,
