Tough classifier at HH last night

It's all about hit factor. Points divided by time.

If Mr. 10 Alpha shot the same time or maybe just a hair slower than the guy with 7 alpha/3 charlie, he'll win. But if the 7 alpha/3 charlie guy was even just a little bit faster he might have a higher hit factor. Whichever works best is highly dependent on the shooter and his/her abilities.

When you haves stages like H&H where the courses of fire are generally short, you'll see the top shooters going super fast and shooting more Cs and Ds than they would on longer courses of fire. That comes back to the hit factor thing again. Honestly, speed > accuracy on short stages. You still can't really miss, but the Cs/Ds aren't going to kill you!!

I'm about to get the smack down from sensei Cyrwus, but that's how it works!

it is how that works, but its in no ones best interest to put it in their mind that c/d's are anything but bad shots.
Does it really take any longer to hit an A as opposed to a D? Not if youre calling shots. which you need to be able to do all the time.

rusty, you really dont know the best way to shoot em? Theres only one way. as fast as you can get all A's (or close to A's, at that distance)

Yeah, I kinda knew that. I was over running myself the entire match and got outside of my game plan. I place a lot higher when I slow down a bit and shoot my game.

So the idea is to get faster accurate shots...

I theory a guy could hit say 10 Alphas on a slower time and beat a guy who shoots 7 A's and 3 C's faster?

Mentally--- I hit that stage with the idea that the objective was to get a reload in and send 12 shots... If I would have slowed down and got 3 or 4 A's that would have scored higher (in 6 seconds)?

This may take awhile... I'm still trying to quell the reflex to get behind a rock when my gun is drawn.

The average USPSA shooter needs to forget about the reload and shoot called A's as fast as they can on that classifier. If you shoot 6 honest, CALLED A's then by all means do a reload and shoot more. But shooting 6 prayers, followed by 6 more prayers is a bad way to approach here.

Think about El prez, it's a similar setup with 6 reload 6 at 10 yards instead of 25. 6A followed by 6A in 6 seconds or under is close to a GM level hit factor (92% for Limited and 97% for production, just checked and we won't talk about open). Think about that, some of the best shooters take 6 seconds at less than 1/2 the distance to get the same number of A's. I think that shows the level of skill required to legitimately shoot 6A at 25 yards with an iron sighted handgun, do a reload and call 6 more alphas.

speaking of calling your shots how long did it take you to be able to do that... i still can't call them, getting closer, but not there..

Calling your shots isn't anything magical. If you're seeing the proper sight picture for the target you're engaging then you're doing it. If you aren't seeing the proper sight picture your shooting faster than your abilities. Slow down and see what need to see. as you get more trigger time you will get a better feel for what sight picture you need for every target.

bullshit... it's magic pixie dust......

I can call mine the majority of the time... it came with shooting about 10k rounds last year, just seeing that sight picture and follow through...

when you don't get it you have an "ah shucks" moment.. revolver shooters typically just make fun of each other when this happens...
