Tough classifier at HH last night

He's a cheater! He does stuff to his guns to make them faster and he won't do the same stuff to my gun which is why he always beats me. at shooting.
I know right, it has to be the guns.
If I had that badass M&P he was shooting, I could've smoked that classifier too.

I dont claim to be a competive shooter... and really admire you guys who can run race guns as well as some of you all do.

So take this with a grain of salt... That classifier proved only that a guy can spray a lot of lead quickly. Sometimes the gamer rules confuse me .... are they really here to make us "better" shooters... or "faster shooters"?

i know that stage was way "out of my pay grade".

But it's fun... so I will keep on coming.

I shot it fast, but didn't get the hits. I'm still not sure what the best way to shoot that first string is??? I got all 12 shots off though. lol... To get those hits I have to slow WAY down, there's not much room in 6 seconds for me to make that happen.

Classifiers definately have a tendency to make you want to shoot faster than you can which is exactly why I'm stuck in C class in 2/4 divisions. I try to go faster than I can see the sights on the target and just start pulling the trigger as fast as I can like I was rolling on a driveby in the hood. If I could pace myself I think A or maybe even M class is within my current abilities.

Jeff,
there wasnt anything racy about the gun I shot. Just a good trigger.

Spend some time looking at how we keep score, check out the hit factor system. Total points divided by time.

Then look at some of the times and scores (including penalties) of some of the shooters you saw shoot..

Go look at my times and then look and my points. Simple fact was that I was fast and still got good points (accuracy)

you cant miss fast enough to win.

I was one of those speed demons early on, missing a target or two every stage. I finally got fed up with not being able to move up in match results; it seemed no matter how fast I tried to go, I couldnt beat the guys who were a little slower, but made better hits.
Well, duh.

(Below isnt necessarily directed towards you, Jeff)

The classifier didnt "Prove" anything.

Its just there, waiting to be shot.

Classifiers dont kill, shooters do.

You guys are actually annoyed that you cant get 12 shots in 6 seconds? I can tell you how you can make that happen, and at the same time become classified as a Grand Master. lol.

What a classifier and classification system is intended to do is take a snapshot of your skills that you have at a particular time. Judging by the skills necessary to obtain a certain hit factor (score), it then spits out a number that presumably correlates to your shooting skill.

The fundamentals of marksmanship are the same; get a good sight picture, try to get an A, and then move on. If the buzzer beeps before youre done shooting, then your skill is not yet of the level that will allow a higher score on that classifier.

This isnt a stage designed to make you try to shoot real fast and try to get lucky..

rusty, you really dont know the best way to shoot em? Theres only one way. as fast as you can get all A's (or close to A's, at that distance)

the light bulb is starting to glow.

+1 Mike

I thought the classifier was pretty cool. On a "regular" classifier, the hits are the constant and the time is the variable. You can take as long as you want to shoot all A's. On the par time classifier, the time is the constant and the shots/hits are the variable. i.e. You should only take shots when you have a good sight picture. Of course I say this being one of the hosers trying to get lucky. :D

This guy is a liar dont listen to him!!! He said to me at this match that his new 2011 open gun slows him down about 10% as compared to his Glock open gun. Then I see that he finished 2nd which I haven't seen before.

Nice Shooting Heath!!! Seeing the difference that the 2011 made for Yuth and now you has me convinced I NEED a 2011 before this season starts.

There's nothing about that thing that's tricky or hard, just get as many A's as you can within the time allotted, that's freaking it.

There's no rule or classifier used in USPSA matches that makes anyone spray a lot of lead anywhere. The guys that win will always have great points, and a nice time. You MUST score points to divide by, you WILL get your butt handed to you if you shoot a lot of D's.

Look at the top shooters and notice that they regularly score 95% or better of the target points and will rarely have penalty points. If you're shooting major that's 2A on 50% of the targets and A/C on the other 50%, no D's or misses. For minor its an even bigger penalty for crappy hits.

For beginners, shoot A's as fast as you can reliably call your shots, no faster. You will reach a point where you have to push yourself to go faster, but your average shooter isn't at that point and is doing themselves a disservice by trying to hose everything.

Actually the person who was the most accurate within the given time frame did the best.

There are classifiers that hinge on high speed manipulation of the handgun, but that wasn't one of them.

Also, what can you "game" about stand here and shoot 3 targets? Hint... nothing, everyone from me to Rob Leatham shoots that thing the same way, better shooters just shoot more accurate shots within the time window.

So the idea is to get faster accurate shots...

I theory a guy could hit say 10 Alphas on a slower time and beat a guy who shoots 7 A's and 3 C's faster?

Mentally--- I hit that stage with the idea that the objective was to get a reload in and send 12 shots... If I would have slowed down and got 3 or 4 A's that would have scored higher (in 6 seconds)?

This may take awhile... I'm still trying to quell the reflex to get behind a rock when my gun is drawn.

It's all about hit factor. Points divided by time.

If Mr. 10 Alpha shot the same time or maybe just a hair slower than the guy with 7 alpha/3 charlie, he'll win. But if the 7 alpha/3 charlie guy was even just a little bit faster he might have a higher hit factor. Whichever works best is highly dependent on the shooter and his/her abilities.

When you haves stages like H&H where the courses of fire are generally short, you'll see the top shooters going super fast and shooting more Cs and Ds than they would on longer courses of fire. That comes back to the hit factor thing again. Honestly, speed > accuracy on short stages. You still can't really miss, but the Cs/Ds aren't going to kill you!!

I'm about to get the smack down from sensei Cyrwus, but that's how it works!
