Here's something a little different for you all to check out. I'm not sure how many folks are into tactics versus running and gunning but I suspect the majority here are in for any practical rifle challenge. If you are familiar with Kyle Lamb and Viking Tactics you have probably seen the 9-hole wall before either in his excellent book Green Eyes and Black Rifles or in one of his many Youtube Videos . I've only seen this drill done with the muzzle through the hole like in the video by Kyle Lamb however on Friday we shot the 9-hole wall with the shooters being few feet back from the wall at a target 75 yards down range.

The rules are easy, hit the target with a shot through each of the nine holes in the fastest way possible. Shoot the wood and you're DQ'd for that run.

The first 3 shots on the top aren't too tough... after that it gets interesting. I made it to six holes my first time through before I shot the barricad and was stopped. The second run is below which I did a bit better but should have laid out prone on the bottom shots with the rifle canted. There are two horizontal shots in the lowere third of the wall that take a bit of work to get the body positioning right to be able to make. Anyway... should you get bored with whatever training you've been doing or you;'d just like something different, I suggest giving this a shot. :) -Todd

Here is a photo of the wall from behind it , a shooters perspective. The wall has wood screwd on in the areas shooters often hit it to reenforce the wall so it won't break apart when hit. The holes are painted when hit so new hits can be discerned.

While I appreciate the challenge I don't get the point?

In the real id run away or not take a shot at the animal rather than through some stupid little hole sideways. In a competition they would never let you take a chance of shooting there wall up.

The drill has real world combat applications Jessee. Change animal to insurgent and imagine it's a concreate or metal barrier between you and somebody trying to end your time on the planet. From a gaming perspective this may look familiar to you and the same skill set applies. Your teammate blew a target on the stage below if I remember correctly because he had his barrel pushing on the wood.

I'd poke my barrel through the wall for support in my hand guard in the real world. Or are there alligators in front of the wall?

Kalani couldn't get support like the rest of us cause his arms are too short for his 15" handguard. If you can't reach the end of your FF tube get a shorter one or it could burn you.

I'm not trying to be a dick and I can't see your video cause the new iPhone software sucks but I'm going by your description.

I see merit in the 9 holes drill but I can't see a use to shoot it from further back without using the wall.

Uzi, modified prone helps out on those lower ports. As always, mind your toes!

Jesse, sometimes you're unable to access your barricade to use it as a rest. Most times it's undesirable to be that close to it, anyway, for practical purposes. When using the barricade as a rest you're typically skylined (to some degree) which sucks on a two-way range.

Looks like fun.

Real world applications you always stay back off your cover if possible for a few reasons. It gives you a lot more freedom to move, and you never know whats on the other side. If someone is close enough to grab your muzzle, its obviously bad joo joo. Can also tip someone off to where you are, even if theyre at an angle and cant see straight through the hole. The list of reasons is long, and probably better explained by someone with more of a gift of speech than I have.

Also, another good drill for alternate shooting positions that can be fun. Take a folding chair out to the range and shoot off of it anyway you can come up with.

That just sounds like a normal range trip to me.

If the hole your planning on shooting through is 2" tall?
