Since we totally jacked MikeP's thread I thought it would be best to continue the AWB discussion here. Sorry Mike...

So crazy uncle Biden is heading up a group of intellectual nutjobs for the purpose of figuring out a way to neuter our rights once again. The way I see it is as follows:

1) He will assemble a group of like minded asshats that will be from "safe districts" meaning those that will catch no heat for their gun grabbing ways. They will include a repub or two so they can "deem" the whole thing "bipartisan" since they just love that term so much, and then proceed to utterly ignore them if they actually try to participate. They won't be allowed to since they lost that right when they lost the election.

2) They will go behind closed doors and strategize in secret, not unlike what they did when writing the healthcare crock of elephant dung.

3) They will rush it to the floor and vote on it before the people can figure out what's in it or do anything about it. They will probably have miss Nancy do her "we have to pass it, so that we can see what's in it" thing for the sheep.

I'll be the first to admit that I have no idea what will be in it and what effect it will have on us. But I can pretty much guarantee that it won't be good. The media is "all in" with them on this. It's almost sickening that when confronted with putting armed security in schools they hold the line in stating that more guns are not the answer. The mistake that us gun folks must not make is to think that they actually believe what they say. They no damn good and well that the solution to an active shooter is another active shooter. This is one thing and one thing only and that thing is not letting a good crisis go to waste. Add in the emotion of the event that sparked it and we've got a real storm on our hands. A minute ago I just saw that in New York somebody set a fire and when the fire dept. showed up they started shooting the firefighters. Mark my word, they will blame this on guns too. It's fixing to get real folks...

Not sure what a Mossman shotgun is but if he got the Bushmaster from someone in NY (he was a convicted felon), NY has a mag capacity restriction of 10 rounds. But I didn't see any mention of that in the article. Only that is was "the same semi-automatic, military-style weapon used in the Dec. 14 rampage killing of 20 children in Newtown, Conn".

So I'm wondering why or if semi auto shot guns will be in an attempted ban on assault weapons. I purchased a new Versa Max from Heartland. ( At a slight discount) Wonder why the black and tactical semi auto type shot guns haven't been flying off the shelf. Merry Christmas every one.

During the last ban, could mfg's still offer upppers for sale or repair parts for the black rifle?

Yep, you could get spare parts for everything, even hicap mags (I don't think you could buy lowers). You could still buy all the parts to build a mag it just wasn't legal. It just limited most preban stuff to the level that it was at when the ban passed. Don't worry this one won't be that lenient. Feinstein has learned a thing or two since then. I really hope that they try and reach too far because that is our only hope. A ban like the 1994 one will pass. One that tries to confiscate won't.

I don't know where I got this, but kind of forgot about it.
Very interesting blog by a liberal.

The people who are pushing this are rather stupid and lacking the ability to perform rational thought plain and simple! there is nothing that is going to change thier minds don't care what solid statistic you can come up with and from whom did the survey. I'm really hoping that the others can hash out some rational thoughts and not do something stupid as it would be a sad day in history for a mess of law abiding people.

The government should take a look at the spike in gun sales over the last week and it should scare them as to the fact that the people are not trusting of what might happen, the amount of succession entries should tell them the people are not happy with the results we have seen. What I can't figure out is the fact that this president was re-elected? are we becoming a minority? was it rigged? have the people became lazy and he promised to give them stuff?

Either way it will effect my rights as a law abiding citizen and that's what pisses me off more than anything! I say we gag the media and make them give out good happy news not the bad news they are so fond of or to push thier aggenda, just think if the media came across telling stories of the good that people have done? the FACT that a shooter was stopped by a good guy with a gun? would it not suck for everyone to have a dose of happy every day. Later,

Kirk

It’s not easy being a leftist who loves guns. It’s like being a Republican who listens to NPR or supports single payer health care. But being a leftist, I get exposed to all the liberal publications and media that invariably call for gun control every time someone does something stupid with one. Being a gun enthusiast, I also get exposed to the political Right’s oversimplification of those liberals as somehow lacking moral fiber or true appreciation of freedom. Rather than agreeing with both, I tend to end up arguing with both. It’s exhausting to always feel like I’m apologizing for the other “side”.

SOMEONE FINALLY UNDERSTANDS ME

in the same way anything gun related is bad from "liberals", any idea that comes from the "left" is evil and communist, both sides are do things that they rip the other side for..

Gun owners are some of the most panic-prone people I've ever seen. There's a legislative push right now but the legislators are going to be running for election long after the Sandy Hook hysteria has died down, and they know that.

Don't panic. Write your congressmen. Instead of blowing your bank account on ammo to hoard, think about donating that money to the NRA instead.

I don't know what the proposed legislation will be, but I don't think it will be as bad as all the Chicken Littles think. The House is full of Republicans who are probably worried about a NRA-backed primary challenger if they move on gun control at all. Even if you write off all the lame duck Republicans they still have something like a 24 vote majority. The White House could probably force a vote on something before then, because during the hysteria right now anyone voting against gun control measures could be made to look like a baby killer. However that would ROYALLY piss off the House majority and any legislative agenda the White House had for the next 2 years would grind to a halt.

This isn't difficult political calculus.

3)They will probably have miss Nancy do her "we have to pass it, so that we can see what's in it" thing for the sheep.

Way to take a Fox News talking point and run with it without understanding the context of the statement.

Of course that analysis totally ignores Democrats in districts where gun control is unpopular, but if I put the words "gun," "Democrat," and "pro" together in the right order it would make half the forum's head explode.

“So, that’s why I was saying we have to pass a bill so we can see so that we can show you what it is and what it isn’t,” Pelosi continued. “It is none of these things. It’s not going to be any of these things.” She recognized that her comment was “a good statement to take out of context.” But the minority leader added, “But the fact is, until you have a bill, you can’t really, we can’t really debunk what they’re saying....”

I'm still not understanding why the bill had to be passed to see what's in it.
Her very words at an explanation defy any logic.

PG when people like you who think that the government is the answer to all that ails us, tell me not to worry that is when I worry.

I never said "don't worry." You should worry. I said, "don't panic."

There's a difference between calmly assessing threats and taking steps to mitigate them (worrying) and shrieking about how THE OBAMA AND HIS UN BLUEHELMETS ARE SENDING DEATH PANELS TO TAKE OUR FREEDOMS (panicking)
