I'm watching the military channel about sniper rifles.
They are presenting different manufactures weapons for comparison.
This one guy is talking about the 6.7 Lapua round VS the .308.

His comment is that the .308 starts dropping the instant it leaves the barrel.
But, the 6.8 is flying true'r and flatter than the .308 making for the better round as it leaves the barrel....?

Maybe I'm missing something, but don't all rounds drop the instant they leave the barrel? ;)

Meplat and Ogive make the difference in down range trajectory in my understanding.

All projectiles will be affected by gravity the instant they leave the barrel. If two bullets in the absence of all factors but gravity were tested by simultaneously dropping one and shooting the other parallel with the ground they would hit the floor at the exact same time. In fact, in the absence of all factors but gravity a hammer and a feather would show similar results.

Are you talking about the 6.5x47 Lapua? The 6.5mm bullets have a better BC than the .308 and you can push that cartridge a little faster than the .308. So yes it is a flatter trajectory.

faster, flatter..... whatever. still heading for the dirt as soon as it clears the muzzle.

Taymoor, what if it were a feather from an African Swallow?

True that 6.5 mm bullets are from a ballistics standpoint perfect. I just have never been able to warm up to the 6.5 bullet despite having owned a few Swede Mausers.
