Howdy Folks!

This summer myself and a group of mostly out of state friends from another forum will be descending on Charleston for a weekend get together. Being it's a shooting forum, the hive mind wants to work in some shooting. But, I'm in the Upstate and haven't any idea where to shoot near Charleston. We'll likely be rooming in one of the hotels near the bridge in Mt. Pleasant, and would like someplace decent that shouldn't have an issue with a mid size group (probably...10-15 people tops. Likely a little less than 10).

A quick look shows two public ranges, Twin Ponds and Boggy Head. Any advantage for one or the other? Sat view on Google doesn't really show any difference between the two. We're also open to an indoor or paid option if anyone knows of a good range in the area that isn't overpriced or with nitpicky rules about ammo and what not.

There's not really much difference other than the drive. Twin Ponds will be closer to you.

Will you be bringing your own range toys or need to rent/borrow?

If you want somewhere to procure weapons and ammo, then Quickshot is going to be your closest option. They're a forum sponsor and a great range.

I would call ahead to see how they would feel about a large group though.

oh we'll be more than set for toys

thanks for the info

To me, there is one big difference in the 2 outdoor ranges At Twin Ponds, you must park sometimes half a block away from the firing line. In groups it is not too much of a problem, but, if you are alone...you have to leave your stuff on the table un supervised to go set targets or make a trip to your car for more ammo and such.

At Boggy Head, you park 20 feet from the firing line...You can always keep an eye on your stuff for that quick trip to the vehicle...

I am a member at Quickshot. It is a great range...just kind of short...You can not shoot buckshot thru the old shotgun, but, slugs are fine.

If you go there, they will set you up in smaller groups and give you different lanes.

Another thing about Quickshot...They have a Rangemaster inside at ALL times. You don't have to worry about some fool swinging a gun past your head...They do have your back...

Did I mention they rent FULL AUTO stuff at Quickshot???

Hope this helped.

Steve

I thought I saw that Quick Shot was letting patrons shoot Full AUto Free today, Good Friday. Ho :D wever, you buy the ammo.

Why do you "HAVE" to leave your stuff on the table? I'd sling my rifle, and holster my pistol... I wouldn't ever leave my firearms unsupervised; especially with my injuries which would make it impossible for me to run towards them if someone showed up for a dash'n'grab.
