Guys - ask chambers if you don't believe me or use these vids as proof

Before - I'm the other big guy in the non striped shirt

After - nervous slow guy decked in Adidas, wishing I had my AK

If I can help anyone make a lifestyle change for the better, just ask!

Ok....I'll bite.....What'd you do? I am working on dropping some weight, and getting in better shape. I'm 225 "ish" and work out at a gym at least 3 times a week. Need to be about 180.

It was very natural - kind of

dropped to 1800 cals a day - tracked it with an iphone app

Used this quick doc as a quick guide
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/93892/Nutrition/1800%20%20calories.pdf

key things to remember -
Find your balance (Protien - Carbs - fat) 30% - 40% - 20%
Your stomach is the size of your fist balled up
Tablespoon is about the size of your thumb
Watch your sodium intake - the Subway diet may be lower in fat and cals, but the cured meats are killer sodium bombs.

After you get a good grasp of how to eat, then introduce exercise and start slow - get your body a chance to adapt to the new changes and then you can start to address more things.

If you do exercise - avoid overeating after working out as a reward for exercising

Make smart choices - you need to have those cheat meals or days - but with two things in mind! Do not beat yourself up over any cheats - this is a journey for the rest of your life. If you eat out, drop the mayo and fatty toppings - cheese only if it alters the flavor is ok, and skip the combo traditional combo meal - fruit is a good side vs fries and watch out for mega fatty salad dressing. - I use salsa to stretch or go for *Fat Free* not Light dressings (typically italian)

after you get it down, then you need to do circuit type exercises that incorporate cardio for your upper and lower body - trying to keep your heart rate at 160. I can send you what I do

Thanks by the way

Hey JP good job!! How long did it take you to lose it? I am currently at 240lbs at 6'1''. However I need to lose some weight. Do you know if they make an app for the blackberry? Interesting, I would like more information. Actually I would like to talk to you because I am one for details and actual How do you do it. General eat under 1800 calories is too general for me. I like examples of what can be eaten throughout the day for under 1800. Thanks for posting this!

Thanks HK -

August 19th is when I first went to my Dr for an annual check up and was given the info sheet I posted.

I officially lost 100 in the middle of January. Roughly six months. I started out at 326 and went down to 226 and have been hovering around 220 - 225 since then. Basically maintaining my weight until my body has a chance to adapt to the rapid loss. My idea is to drop down to 207, but am looking at maybe 2 pounds a week at most in weight loss.
The App I started using was called "lose it" originally and then I started using "my fitness pal" it has a much larger database. The app is good and easy when on the run, but they have a site as well that I used when at my desk.

1800 calories does not mean anything - you are quite correct in asking about this.
I mean using food and calories that are very going to yield positive results -

Proteins (I focus on lean fish, lean chicken breast, lean pork etc...) Lean proteins provide a good foundation.

Carbs - limit these in general - and always try to focus on net carbs (carbs - fiber). I eat a lot of high fiber foods to counter balance the carb intake and allow for my body to get rid of it vs storing it as fat.

Fat/oils - I like nuts, olives, olive oil etc.. but limit these too (really measure because it is easy to go from 100 cals (teaspoon of olive oil) to 200+ - so use these sparingly and measure these. I stretch dressing with water, mustard, vinegar and minimize oil - most people need to coat their salad in heavy dressing - this negates the purpose of eating a salad - so I try to thin it out--- fat free italian is good, salsas good

EAT A LOT OF VEGGIES - this will help with your hunger - eat carrots, spinach, broccoli - they are really good sources of vitamins your body needs and even if you go over, they don't have a negative effect like a burger, sweets or high fatty snacks.

I was 255 and now 240 in about a month and a half. I picked up this book the 7 principles of fat burning. It is a great book. In there he talks about your body type, what you should eat, what to avoid. In addition there is a drink that cleans you up. However I want to lose faster and keep it off. My idea weight is about 215-220lbs that is when I think I look best.

Are you very active - your body type muscular build can add to your weight. Any problem areas? You can pm me if you would like. Also try to not go under 1000 cals a day - this would have negative results

no joke man, that's awesome! after i got out of the Marine Corps in 06, i gained about 50 pounds and that's where i'm sitting at - 255. i am active at work and know that my biggest issue is the crap that i eat and drink...too many cokes and sweet tea! i'm going to look for that app, i'm sure android has one similar...

That is the truth - it's as easy as making good choices but the journey is for life. That's the best way for me. I've tried the pills, diets, even considered surgery. None of that can even compare to how I feel now and the results I accomplished without them!

Great job on the wight loss JP!

Check this out. The diet is really easy if you like fruit and nuts. Caveman Power Diet Im on this diet now not because i really need to loose weight but because i think its good for you. I lost 15 pounds in the first month. Which has almost put me to my target weight.

Also, Insanity home workout. You can lose weight just watching it!

I do or have done P90,Insanity and Kettleworks. Insanity is by far the hardest but it will whip you into shape FAST.

I just looked up that caveman diet, looks interesting. how did you do on stage two, no eating all day?

I was about half way into the second stage when i had to go out of town for work. Kinda fell of the wagon. Its really not bad. The first stage gets you primed up for it. Im going to start stage 2 soon. You will drink lots and lots of water. And remember that you can eat (feast) at night. The cool thing is that if you stick to stage one when you hit stage two you will only want healthy food to eat at night.

I've started working out every day (playing 1 1/2 - 2hrs of either half-court or full-court pickup B-ball at the local YMCA) and have had tons of compliments on how I look like I'm loosing weight (I'm not eating right), but I've actually gained a few pounds.

I need to start eating right or something for sure, but I'm also looking to increase my activity to 2 1/2hrs of some sort of exercise per day (I take the wife and kids - the wife does aerobics and the kids all play ball, so it serves as family time and exercise time).

Congrats on the loss though man - that's pretty awesome.
