I don't see anybody open carrying so I try to open carry whenever I can

I've only seen it by one other person.

Anyways, here's a picture of me in walmart

Same here, not to mention its a hoot to see the looks on peoples faces!
Wouldn't it be just as easy to pull your shirt over your gun?

I'm not being a smart ass but "because you haven't seen anyone open carry" and "you like to see the look on someones face" don't seem like very good reasons

I agree 100%.

I like the law because it keeps you from getting in trouble if you somehow get in a situation where your gun becomes exposed on accident. But I don't like it because I've seen several people carrying open and not one of them made me feel good about it. I think most of them were doing it for the shock factor and naturally they are what the general public sees as a gun nut.

I do it because I want the public to be more comfortable in the presence of firearms.

No, I don't act stupidly, and I don't carry a chromed mexican cartel gun in an uncle mike's nylon holster.

It should be commonplace. Out of all the people that get their carry licenses, very few ever actually carry, even concealed. By making people feel more comfortable, hopefully we get more carriers out there, and hopefully we get a public that is more accepting of guns.

In Alaska, when getting away from the tourist areas, almost everybody OC's for obvious reasons. I've only seen one at walmart in my area.

Saw my first and only OCer just before Christmas at Sam's in Tulsa. He was carrying what appeared to be a nice 1911 in a nice holster. I was killing time waiting for the wife so I followed them around and watched to see how people reacted. No one seemed to notice and if they did they didn't care. I probably won't OC but it was nice to see someone do it without it being an issue.

No issue because they probably figured the OC was LEO.

I've been concerned how few people in Ok even know open carry is legal.

You are probably right but he didn't really look LEO dressed in jeans and a t-shirt and was with his wife.

Geez, posting here is like standing down range, make a friendly comment and get shot full of holes.

I am a firearms instructor, I open carry because people approach me and ask questions, I get opportunities to promote firearms ownership, SDA carry, and educating the public that people who carry are not "gun nuts". Not to mention that it has introduced me to quite a few new clients. I do enjoy seeing peoples reactions, especially when the reactions are positive and supportive, and I enjoy it more when someone asks me about how they can learn to carry.

Trust me, I understand all of the tactical advantage machinations of concealed over open carry.

I think it is disgusting that the "general public" should be shocked. That is why more "normal" SDA holders should be out there demonstrating that it is no big deal.

The only 2 people I have seen OC were both carry revolvers. 1 had it strong side appendex carry in a nice leather holster. The other guy was carrying what looked like a cowboy gun mounted weak side for a strong hand cross draw. One was at walmart the other was in the woods scouting for a deer hunt.

Yeah and that working brain tells me that I can't wear a black holster with my summer wardrobe.

YOU CAN'T WEAR DEEP BRIGHTS WITH BLACK, JEFF!!!!

In Kentucky, we have open carry. I generally don't, and have yet to get my CCW permit, (but I'm gonna). However, it is perfectly legal to have a "truck gun". In other words, loaded and ready to go, as long as it is in the vehicles factory compartment, i.e. seat pocket, door pocket, glove box, and console. This pretty much suits my current needs.

Nevada has "traditional open carry" (never out lawed it like OK and most other states did once upon a time).

I do here on occasion... it's really nice to leave the coat out in the car.... or take a coat off in a resturant... or come in from the BLM /Forest Service land and run into a store without violating some law.

How many CCW carriers protect the gun they have "concealed"? When people go predictable and poo poo OC as a tactical error...and you watch the same CC guy not take advantage of the many methods taught to protect an open gun from a grab it makes me go "hmmmnnn". I cannot tell you how often I've had an inadvertent bump frisk happen to me in que over the years--- and I really try to avoid lines while armed in any mode. I've found a few guns on people the same way- close contact in a crowd is a problem....

That "interview posture" should be a given when you carry covered or open. Protect the gun is a high priority in either mode of carry. If you not blading the gun away a little- your too comfortable about toting a Roscoe... covered or not.

Most of the arguments against OC are some kind of logical fallacy. Not much evidence that OC folks (civilians) are "shoot me first" victims.

The other thing... there is open carry and then there is "open carry". Some idiot who carries in a prominent fashion is probably an idiot. If you want some attention... look like a scuzbucket and carry the biggest gun possible in a shoulder holster or double mexican cowboy rig.

Most of you guys have a IWB and some "common" popular CCW fighting handgun... Carry a Glock or Kahr or XD or 1911 in and IWB and let the grip play peek- a -boo at the waistline... you won't cause a stir... and a guy wearing a full cut dress shirt will find out that shirt shadows the thing enough it may as well be covered anyway.

Finally.. the way the OK SDA was re written... it took away that really stupid violation that made a CC er keep his gun covered in a car. Before that law changed I violated every day and twice on Sunday. People take off coats to drive often... and stepping out of a car to pump gas should not place a legal gun carriers in peril with the law.

Frankly--- I am suprised you folks still debate this.
