Open Carrying

Most of the arguments against OC are some kind of logical fallacy. Not much evidence that OC folks (civilians) are "shoot me first" victims.
Jokes about fashion aside, I mostly just don't want people to know I'm carrying, and my reasons have nothing to do with tactics.

I just want to get through the day without singling myself out as The Guy Carrying A Gun. Maybe that makes me a bad 2A advocate. Whatever.

If people want to carry a gun while they present themselves well and mind their own business then that's great. I have a problem with people who open carry because LOOK AT ME EVERYONE I HAVE A GUN CHECK OUT MY SHEEPDOG.

Frankly--- I am suprised you folks still debate this.
Um beating dead horses is what Internet forums are for.

Not to beat a dead horse.... last 'Nevada Day' had about 30,000 extra people in Carson for the parade and celebration. I was semi open for a little while and noted several full blown Oc'ers about. Nary a elephant dung was given.

The average citizen is pretty self absorbed... the same human failure that allows you to go un seen while heeled is the same human failing that gets the same goober shot up by a Mall Killer on a rampage.

Like you- my mission is to go through life generally unoticed. Good sense is good sense. If I have to go to Reno- I cover up.... but in Waynoka, OK you could walk downtown at noon and there is no one to notice you.... go figure.

Up the hill is a place called Virginia City. The locals carry open all the time. Great fun for the Aisian tour groups who come up to see Hoss and Little Joe LOL

I know there are places where OC is generally accepted but Midtown Tulsa is definitely not one of those places.

what happens in Waynoka stays in Waynoka...I am looking forward to the rattle snake festival, I had a great time last year.

I've only seen it twice, and both times the guys were rude assholes. Once at Uptown, guy came barreling past me and didn't even say excuse me, and then at academy, the same type of thing happened, but that guy kept looking at me like he wanted me to say something to him just so he could start some elephant dung. I have been out with my friend who open carries and he has been harassed a couple of times, once at a chinese restaurant, a kid who worked there started yelling at him "NO GUNS!!! NO GUNS! You a cop!?" and then pretended to start a duel with him. Then our friends that we have game night at their house have installed a no guns on premises sign because of him, meanwhile I carry freely in their house, well because they don't know. I also carry freely in the malls, whole foods, and pretty much everywhere it isn't an actual crime to carry and no one is the wiser and I don't get bothered. I might open carry if I felt it served an advantage, but in the current climate and because I don't like having to walk back out to my car if someone asks me to leave, I just carry concealed.

I bet those two individuals secrete asshat vibes in every endevor they participate in.

The fact of the matter is--- most folks that can don't. And when we do- we have the decorum to not create a stir with it.

Spencer started this thread using every emotionally- charged thing either side says... in a rather tounge-in-cheek way.

Keep in mind... Open Carry in Oklahoma requires a valid SDA permit. Those asshats are just as rude covered as uncovered ....

My contention about permits in general, is they simply validate a lot of stupid people. I pay a permit fee to be "legal" then I pay to train to a competent level of performance (classes and competition) as do many of the members here. I'd be a lot happier if the govt.com dropped the fee (it's discriminatory at best) and real world actions sorted out the winners from the losers as events warrant. After all... when you pay a permit fee to carry stupid you get what you encountered --- rude ass holes.

I choose to carry concealed. However, my IWB holster isn't fully concealed when I'm on an appointment and dressed in slacks/golf shirt normally. Normally, I'll let me client know ahead of time that I am a licensed to carry and ask them if they mind that I carry while I'm there. So far, I've not had anyone ask me not to. If they do, or the situation doesn't fit...I'll carry in my workbag.

I was asked by one my client's employees while on appt in Midwest City area..."Why do you carry a gun?" I simply said, to protect myself and my family if necessary. She said does it make you feel big and bad? I said, hell no...I hope I never need it, but I'd hate to need it and NOT have it. Then, I reminded her of the child pulled from the shopping cart in MWC last year and held at knife point...that's why I carry.

Concealed is best for me, but I see some clothing changes in my near future for work stuff

When I'm in Waynoka at certain times of the year, you could walk down main stream with your "man sword" in display and nobody would cat lady.

A pistol, wouldn't raise an eyebrow. Everybody has one, concealed or not.
