Need educated opinions.

This 5.25" XD(M) competition is the bi-tone and I can get it new for around $550 in the .40 cal that dennis is talking about, is this a good buy? Or hold out for a M&P or other pistol?

That's a really good price, especially for the bi-tone. Still it would be best to beg, borrow, or rent some time behind any of them that you are considering.

IMO I would say the MP over the XD. I have handled and shot both of them. To me the MP had a solid feel and a good weight in the hand. The XD felt loose and almost seemed to have a slide to frame rattle. Furthermore, stated above the MP is Made in America.

I have a M&P with a bunch of rounds on it and the slide to frame relationship is such that the whole rear part of the slide moves when the firing pin safety is disengaged. Also the M&P pro weights nearly exactly the same as the XDM 5.25.

All I'm saying is these are totally subjective opionions. Practically speaking these guns are on the same playing field, performance wise, and anybody in the market should just go get what they like.

The XDM 5.25 is more ready to rock out of the box. No question.

DOH! True. Sad but true.....

The Bearcat is one of my exceptions!

I never liked the feel of the XD's. My wife has an M&P and if they were around when I started competing, I'd probabaly started out with one instead of a Glock. .
