For Berry's 230gr plated bullets using Clay's Universal.
I load 5.4gr of Clay's Universal and seat the bullet to 1.262 OAL.
It's a smooth, light-medium load.

I'm getting ready to experiment with some J&K's hardcast to see where I'm at with the recipe.

I use the J&K's 230gr @ 3.8gr of Clay's (plain) and 1.25 OAL, gets me right around 170PF.
Just got 1500 Bear Creek 200gr moly SWC, those things make dimes for holes. Plan to use Titegroup for those, prob 4.8gr at the same 1.25 OAL. A shooting buddy uses that load and they are accurate and virtually smoke free, also around 170PF.
The Bear Creeks were around $40 per 500 and free shipping over $95.

I'm just curious Jason, but why would you buy out of state when our bullets are less expensive? To be perfectly honest, we are selling them as fast as we make them. But it does spark my curiosity how we lost a customer when our price is lower and I offer free delivery to the Tulsa area when I come up for a match several times a month.

Mitch,
You have not lost a customer. I am a big fan of your bullets and further think your a hell of a great guy who is true proponent of our sport.
I split the order with another shooter who is actually the one who is currently using them. I wanted to try the moly coated with Titegroup.
I still shoot J&K bullets and have shot several hundred of the 230gr .45's and have several hundred more loaded up. I saw in the past you were considering making up some moly bullets. I've never used them before and want to experiment a bit.
I hope you not breaking up with me! ;)

factory; 1.25" OAL

caution, clays is a fast powder, and thats a low case volume, you could probably triple charge it and thered be room to spare.

This is a gamer 45 major load.

Any idea on the minimum amount of Clay's Universal to still make major?
We're at 4.8 with 230 J&K Lead RN at 1.24 right now, but no chrono (someone shot it) to test.

too bad I missed this when it first came up. A reply now just wouldn't be right.

My nice .45 recipe is 3.7 gr of Clays under a 230gr LRN. I've been using Mitch's lead with great results. For 230gr jacketed Zero bullets I bump it up to a 4.0 gr. They make right at 170pf.
