Great point. A properly fitted shotgun works wonders.
 
I usually put up a uspsa target with the white side showing, put a 3" dot on it and shoot birdshot fron about 18 yds. I can tell exactley where pattern is hitting. Fiocchi 1 oz 1150 fps slugs at 50 yds. These slugs will be consistent from lot to lot and group great.
