With a rimmed round you can shoot with or without moonclips, the 45acp and 10mm Smith's HAVE to have the moonclip due to the lack of rim on the round. Later,

My only concern with doing that with a .38/.357 is that you can't really shoot without the clips then. I have a mdl 22 .45 acp, and for range fun, I don't really care for using the moon clips.

TK customs (moonclips.com) cuts the inner portion of the cylinder leaving an outer ring that sets the headspacing for single round loading.

Kirk I think it costs about $100 to get your cylinder cut. Everybody I talk to says the mega buck hearthco clips are worth it. One of these days I'll get my 686 done.

Cool. I didn't realize you could still shoot loose rounds. Yeah, I've noticed that shooting .45 loose is sporadic at best. And then extraction is a PITA.
