An alternative no one's mentioned, so I'll throw this out. Anyone looked at ? or owned a Bear Creek Arsenal AR ?
Read about them, wanted to try a side-charging AR, so I bought one in 7.62 X 39. After owning it for awhile, discovered a few draw-backs with a side-charger.
1) you need am allen wrench to remove the BCG..the charging handle is held on with one, & you can't remove the BCG with it attached.
Not a big deal, unless you're @ the range, need to remove the BCG for some reason, & don't have the correct size allen wrench with you. Since I disassembled the rifle for cleaning after I purchased it, I made sure to put an allen wrench of the correct size in my range bag. Surest way NOT to need it..
2) I use a brass catcher on all my AR's.. I'm a reloader / hand loader, I always collect my brass. A brass catcher keeps me from having to track down my brass, as well as avoiding having to bend over to pick it up. I'm unable to mount / use the brass catcher I use on my other AR's on the side-charger, as the charging handle would strike against the frame of the brass catcher. Fitting a ball cap around my scope rings allows the brass to fall into the cap, then on the ground, where I can pick them up. Not as good as my usual brass catcher.. but it keeps me from having to chase it down or look for cases in the grass.
MY BCA carbine in 7.62 X 39 has been completely reliable , and I'd say the accuracy is at the same level of my PSA upper in the same caliber.
It's one of the top 3 AR's in accuracy, of all the calibers I own , having several in 223/5.56, 7.62 X39, .308, 9mm, & 22 rf.
Checked their site,& BCA has AR's in 45 acp & 10mm.. in pistol barrel length & carbines. Prices are around $ 600.. so BCA might be an option for you.
