Losing weight

P90X is outstanding. I did it consistently in college and got into great shape. Right now I do it about 3x a week rather casually and have been able to just about maintain the same level...20+ pullups, 80+ pushups, etc. I don't take any supplements and eat/drink whatever the hell I want and stay around 10-11% body fat. If your goal is all-around athleticism this is my recommendation. It is challenging, and unlike any other workout I've tried, you won't get bored with it. :)

The Stew Smith workouts are good, too, http://www.stewsmith.com/.

I bought a couple of his ebooks back in the day and had great results. 3 mile time was around 18:00 at one point in time. It's not anymore because I still loathe running in a straight line...anyway, he has some free articles posted that are good, too, and more practical for most people.

Many people confuse losing weight with changing body composition. Most fad diets will restrict calories or carbs and cause you to lose weight but maintain a high percentage of body fat. The key to changing your body composition and maintaining muscle mass is eating correctly. If you are not eating right it does not matter if you workout.

I agree that "Body for Life" is a great approach. You can find most of the information online. I have the book and recommend it to some of my clients.

I have a client that I train. He was 262 lbs and 47% body fat, he is now 187 lbs in only ten months of training. He uses the "Body for Life" book as an eating guide.

I will start a thread in my sponsor section for fitness questions. If anyone is interested.

Curious how the OPs workouts have been going, have you found something that works Mitch?

Got cleared from my elbow injury and have been doing some push-ups and walking. This week I am starting a "morning routine" of push-ups, sit-ups and flutter kicks and a few other things. My knees have been giving me some trouble lately and have me a bit worried (scared to be honest) but the best thing for them right now is probablythat I drop some weight. I have adjusted my diet during the week, and am trying to slowly get more aggressive on the diet and the excercise.

Well, I joined a gym. Me and a buddy had talked about it and finaly just decided to join a gym and go in the mornings. Kinda nice to have someone else along who is fatter than me, LOL! We have pretty much the same goals of getting into better shape so we can do some training of some sort.

Just thought I would update yall. I have lost 7-10 pounds, between my dieting and going to the gym. Not looking for a pat on the back, but I do want some kicks in the butt if I stop.

Change your diet. I have no problem being hungry, but hunger seems to completely govern the behaviors of most people. Eating less = losing weight, eating right = health. You don't want to end up with heart disease, because once it starts, it never stops, and will be what kills you if something else doesn't do it first. Also, American people tend to stick to carbs and meat, with a smattering of veggies/fruit. Horrible, horrible choice, unless you eat once a day. Meat is almost devoid of nutrients unless it's raw. Exercise is great, but mainly for toning and training muscles. It will unbalance the ratio of energy in versus energy out in your favor, but won't lead to a large drop in a short time frame.

I have completely re done my diet. I love fresh vegetables and like fruit, so I have added a lot in that dept. At the sime time I am limiting my calories, but making sure I am eating good stuff.

Keep us posted Mitch onyour successes. When I see other guys kicking ass on a diet or workout program it helps drive me too.
