I don't wear earplugs while hunting as I hear most stuff before I see them.
Kirk
I understand that statement about hearing the game before you see them.
I had that same frame of mind, and used that to justify not wearing hearing protection while in the field. I've hunted for 40+ years without hearing protection, using high powered centerfire rifles and pistols, as well as rimfire. I"m a badass, and don't need hearing protection was my attitude.
Continue that practice, and you will be in my position. I have $3000.00 of hearing aids in EACH EAR. 6 grand total. I have a hard time with speach comprehension, even with the aids, have to constantly say "huh",
I got examined by one of the best audio Doctors in the country, and he said that constant exposure to gunfire is the worst thing for the nerves in your inner ear.
It is not reversible, so don't believe all of these full page ads in the newspapers touting they can restore your hearing to "normal".
PROTECT YOUR HEARING! A deer is not worth it.
My advice to you is to put up some $ and get some of the Walker Game ears.
When you hear a deer coming through the leaves, and have them in, they will shut down the muzzle blast before it gets to the nerves in your ear. Electronics work at the speed of light that is is much faster than the speed of sound. So, with the walker game ears being digital, it will comp the noise before it gets to your ears.
Trust me, the embarassment of not having good hearing in a restaurant, around friends, etc, is not worth taking the time to protect your hearing.
