I removed the ambidextrous (right side) safety from my 1911...

.... for a safer carry. Do I need to put some type of pin in its place? What would be the part called and where to buy it?

That would be a S&W 1911.

You need to get a proper single sided safety to replace it. There's no guarantee any of the safety features are in place at it is.
